Hi all,

I have just bought the new G502. (It's great!). But, I do not know how to change the font, default sounds, etc. It took me 2 days to figure out that for flashing, I need to press and hold the '5' key and not the 'C' key...

Also, XS++ says unrecognized phone..

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Well if it's new you probably won't be able to mod it.

XS++ Doesnt support DB3150 phones like your G502.

Yes, at last i found a topic for g502 modding. I've done a little modding. So far here's the list:

Remove the operator logo. Now my standby screen looked a little cleaner.
Change the menu structure. I remove the playnow icon, change it with file manager.
Added flash menus. Flash menus can really change the whole look of the phone.
Modified the now playing structure. I've increase the size of the album art. It now almost take half of the whole screen. Very nice actually.
Change the acoustic driver. I've improved it but far from perfect.
Tried to change the camdriver. No visible result. Only increased the file size. I guess it's just plain bad camera sensor. No amount of modding can improve the camera performance.

If you're interested guys i'll post my files.

Here's another thing. I never use x++. I use a2uploader. It's very good and effective.

Normally, a camdriver can make a whole difference . My W595's camera was hugely improved after uploading Brazzuka's driver. What driver are you using?

Hei, lets make as the biggest thread for g502. Lets share everything about our mighty g502!! I want to make thread like this before but i think it will multiple thread with k850 and k660.

I still waiting for better camdriver which will improve my cam. The worst thing of g502 cam is the focal length only 3.2mm. Less focal length = more noise. U'll see the different between w700 (4.3) : w830(3.8) : g502(3.2)

I guest he's using v4.1 since k660mod camdriver had very poor video record.

I can't remember. I think it was brazukkas'. I've downloaded so much camdrivers even those not for g502 just to see if the cam performance can be improved. It's was like a trial and error thing. It the end i'm back to the original camdriver.

I'll be posting my modded menu sooner. Anyone tried using x++? My g502 still got the original FW version. I'm waiting for the FW update from Sony Ericsson.

XS++ is for A100 generation so its useless fo G502. G502 is A200 generation so it must using A2Uploader. The latest g502 firmware release by SEUS is R1FB031. Other FW is R1FA031,R1FA035,R1FA036,R1FA037

G502 has R1FB ? Is it a branded FW?

Guys i need the original acoustic of g502. I know it's in here somewhere but searching it... I have a copy on my pc, not sure which one is the orig acoustic (a got plenty). Just post the link if you find it. Would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Thanks kuncung. I'm waiting for the official upgrade from SE. Hope they will. R1FA035, R1FA036,and R1FA037 are like custom upgrade (not officially from SE) right? I've downloaded a copy of R1FA035 generic but not sure if i should use it. Been looking for log or something where you will know what changes will be made if i flash my FW from 31 to 35.

Nothing much will change, it's the same FW with minor branding differences

Did u meant r1fa031 = r1fb031 (r1fa031 branded=r1fb031)?
R1FB031 is branded by T-Mobile (now im sure)

That too, but R1FA031 is only a tad different from R1FA035 (generic)

To earL, try this modded menu.ml of mine. This is from my previous g502. (I saved copies of all moddings i've done with that phone). You can try change the icons but be sure of the its dimensions.

If you just save the old menu.ml somewhere you can just add it back, which will reverse the changes

but how can i save a copy of the original menu.ml if i can't copy it using a2uploader?

guys, i've already tried all the available FWs of g502 (r1fa031, 035, 036 and 037) in just one month. The only distinct difference among these FWs can be seen with the 037. It completely changes the menu icons' appearance. Plus, it adds the video call feature and some changes in the location of games and applications. But i'm using 035 right now. I was wondering where i can download the r1fb031.

Hello earL. Sorry i was not able to reply sooner. I was out of town for four days. As for your question, you can save a copy of the original file before you replace it with a modded one. Using a2uploader, just right click on the file then select Read. You can view the file in the folder ph_out located in the directory where a2uploader is located. There, i guess i'm already late though. You've already modded your phone.

Here's my modded files:

Layout and Now Playing xmls. For the layout, i just removed the operator logo. As for the Now Playing, a complete redone on the interface i might say. The album art takes centerstage. All my music files are on m4a format, all with album art. I haven't tested it with g502 actually. Just post your comments and lets see...

hi jtaviel. uhm, regarding your modded menu, i tried using it but there were problems. the icons for messages and alarm clock became 'x' while there were no changes at all with the other icons. i just put the menu.ml at tpa/preset/system/menu.

One thing easier.. Use gfx patch.. Im using 1.8mb and no problem (just hang in 20h).. Icon trick is buggy.. U can use flash theme too..

Right. You only put the menu.ml. Also include the icons (png) in tpa/preset/system/menu. Just copy all icons, i forgot which one of those i used in the menu.ml. Good luck.

I don't know. But if you see icons/pngs in the menu folder of the phone's fs, maybe you can. Just delete it all, then replaced it with mine. (Create a backup in case youll change your mind.) I haven't tried flashing my g502 (don't have it now) with other FW.

Nope! The only way to get the r1fb001 is flash via SEUS at this time..
I used r1fa037 now. It much better than my old R1FA031. The patch works fine and stable.. The main menu? I dont care, i use flash menu (about 50+) but u cange it by uploading png file to tpa/preset/system/menu....
This is what i know bout the g502 fw
- r1fa031 > china, not branded, its having restart problem (bug) and hard to patch it (the patch wont work), dont use this..
- r1fa035 > orange, we know that orange fw is faster than others...
- r1fa036, i dont have a clue
- r1fa037 > hutchinson, weird icon but i love it, video call, a lot of patch, i use this fw..,should be better (its newer)
-r1fb001 > t-mobile, patch not much available yet..

By editing menu.ml u can make the walkman menu appear in the main menu..
Use nazario accoustic, distortion reduced..,at least best that i've tried before.
Most important..
I'm not using a2uploader anymore to acces my FS just mobyexplorer from my g502.

1. you said that you use r1fa037 because of video call and has a lot of patch. what are these 'patches'? what are they for?
2. where can i download the nazario acoustics?
3. what is a mobyexplorer? is it an application?
