I hv been a member of SE-NSE since the last week now... and the only reason i joined it was to know about modding my k790i (although now i hv started liking it... it's too addictive, the forum).. Now i am gonna sum up all the information and knowledge i hv gathered and need advice from u ppl whether i am missing something or any kindda advice/suggestion/changes .. anything... I am a complete newbie and really don't wanna mess up my phone so please help me.... Here is what i know...

1. Install the USB flash drivers on ur PC...
2. Start XS++ and press connect
3. Connect the Phone after turning it off and holding the C key..
4. Make a backup of ur GDFS data
5. Remove the Sim and the M2 card
6. Then using XS++ upload the acoustics pack to the phone

I hv never used XS++ b4 and hv never even connected my phone to it.. so u can easily understand how much i know abt the procedure... Wherever i hv read about modding and XS++, one thing was common everywhere, flashing with new firmware. Now i understand that the firmware can be updated but do i need to really update my firmware just for installing new acoustic packs??? Or will my current firmware do... i mean can i simply upload new acoustics pack without doing anything to my firmware???

Another question is.. god forbid but if something goes wrong in the process.... can my k790i be reset to the way it was??? i mean complete reset... to make it the way it was when i purchased it... Can everything be restored?? Is there any sort of complete backup i can make before going ahead???

Another thing is that i understand that the default acoustic files will be overwritten on the phone when i install any new one.... Can i backup my original default acoustic files???

Also... i am quite satisfied with my loudspeaker and earpiece volume/quality... I only want to change the acoustics for my earphone (that is HPM 70) nothing else.... So what should i do?? i think that acoustic packs all three of them?? is there any specific file i need to upload (and skip something) so that my earpiece and loudspeaker remains the way they were??

Thirdly.... any suggestions as to which acoustics pack i should consider?? i am thinking about Peter's acoustic pack.... is there any specific version u wud suggest (for K790i with HPM 70) (link please!!!).. I need the volume to be a bit more than what it is at the moment....

PLEASE HELP ME.... I KNOW NEXT TO NOTHING ABOUT THESE THINGS.... AND I REALLY DON'T WANNA MESS UP WITH MY PHONE.... PLEASE!!!!! IT WILL BE GR8 IF SOMEONE CAN GIVE A DETAILED STEP BY STEP INFO FOR DOING THIS.....

Hello n00b tongue.gif
Well. let me answer your questions...
You don't need to do anything to your firmware to change acoustics. Just use the FSX feature of XS++ and browse to ifs/settings/acoustic and leave the ZAPF files there
In the highly unlikely event that something does go wrong, just flash a new FS and you'll be fine. Trust me
If you do install new acoustics they WILL overwrite the old ones, and you cannot make a backup with XS++, but I think JDFlasher can.
The files that control the speaker always are fairfield_xx.zapf and the ones that control the HPM-70s are phf_xx.zapf where by xx is a variable. smile.gif So If you don't want to change that, upload all files apart from the fairfields and phfs.
I don't have a DB2020 phone so I wouldn't know which acoustics are good, although I am an APF acoustic modder.

U said that the ones that control my earphone (here HPM 70) are phf_xx.zapf and then u wrote that upload all files apart from the fairfields and phfs but then i DO WANT TO CHANGE MY EARPHONE's ACOUSTICS (I WANT TO MAKE MY HPM 70's SOUND A BIT LOUDER). I think i was not sufficiently clear... I just want my earphone's sound to change.. as far as the earpiece and the loudspeaker is concerned i don't want to change their sound... There must be seperate files which control the loudspeaker (back speaker) and the earpiece (tiny speaker on the frone)... U hv mentioned the loudspeaker files.... (fairfield_xx.zapf) what about the earpiece files??? Which ones do i need to skip....???? PLEASE HELP!!!!
WizaJ
I'm not sure about the earpiece files. And if you do want to make your HPM-70's louder, then you WILL have to change the PHF acoustics.

Thanx for being so quick and helping me out... You are a gem..... The only thing now i wanna do is to make a backup of my original acoustic files... i just downloaded the JDFlasher but i can't figure it out... Can i find the original K790i acoustic files anywhere on the net?? or is there a simple way to make a backup??? I just wanna play safe... Please help me one more time....
WizaJ
Well, I don't know how to use JDFlasher with DB2020s. Check this page and you should be able to find them

OK Friend... Thanx for helping me out... I hv just downloaded the original K790i acoustics so that in case i don't like the mod... then i can revert it back to the way it was.... I think everything should be fine... As i said earlier, u r truly a gem.... Any last comments???

Good luck smile.gif although I think you'll like 3rd party acoustics more than the stock ones. Or try the W850 ones. I hear they're really good.
