Hey guys,
I recently found this site and it looked really interesting modding my cellphone. I have a sony ericsson W810i and I would like to mod it. Do you have any recommendations for my W810i? What I should get e.g. camera drivers, audio drivers etc. And how I should do it (because I'm a real newbie in modding etc).
Thnx in advance!
A very good tutorial on ho to mod is Wally_Dog's :
http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=15779&hl=It includes everything, from flashing to patching

.
I, on my W810, use Samrad 6.0 for camera and my own acoustic mix (TVH v8 mixed with Signature_Boy's Xclusive Pack).

Thnx for the fast response!
I'll take a look on that. And I have another question: I looked on the forum and I saw that you have to place some files in inf/settings/camera. Can I ask where it is located?
EDIT: I also tried to use the USB flash driver found on the forum here, but when I do that, it installs himself without getting that New Hardware found thingy

Well can you connect your phone to XS++?
First off all it's not in
f/settings/camera but if
s/settings/camera

This is the location of the camera driver (camdriver0.dat) although most people use the move drivers to other/drv patch (Ask about this later, when you've got the hang of it)
And the ifs/settings/camera is a special directory that is in your FS (File System) but cannot be veiwed on the phone. You need to break into your FS using XS++'s FSX feature or FAR+SEFP/JD Flasher. Some people, with the
ElfPack patch, use the FileManager
elf, which is a special app that allows you to access the FS while the phone is on. I made a guide on how to access your FS if you are CID 49 RED, that can be found
hereWelcome to the modding world! Have fun with your

! Just ask if you're having trouble

Thnx Wizaj, As you said, if you are CID 49 RED. How do I know what CID I have?
Connect in XS++, then it'll let you see you EROM CID. If it's 49, happy patching, if it shows 50, no patching (yet )
Look in the XS++ part of mine, or Wally's guide

Don't forget a GDFS backuup
MisterToine
2008-04-07 16:39
I tried to do your tutorial wizaj, many thanks for that, but when I plug in the phone with the cable, I don't see any wizard of windows =/ Also, If windows says that there is new hardware found, it says that windows installed it. Any help on this?
EDIT: I can connect to XS++ and I have CID 49 RED

I downloaded the USBFlash thingy from the site wizaj gave in the tutorial, but when I want to change it to that USBFlash thing, it says it is nog digital. What can I do now? =/
MisterToine

Anybody has an idea?
If you've managed to connect XS++ that means the USB Flash Drivers are installed. Proceed to the next steps in the guides
MisterToine
2008-04-07 20:27
Ok, It worked for a part, Except for leaving that matrix thing =/
So I shut down CDFS loader, and I exit FAR. refresh phone, connect to FAR
Then when I go to FLASH. I get an error. I can't post it now, but I click OK. And then I don't see any map in the FLASH map. Thnx wizaj for all your help! If only I could find this thing =/
Make sure you have selected the correct boot script for the phone. These sometimes get messed up by accident, either that, or your cable isn't connected securely enough. Are you using the files in my guide? (how_to_customise_CID49.rar)
MisterToine
2008-04-08 14:46
Yes I did. And now I have another problem. My phone doesn't start when I hit the start button on my phone

I created a GDFS backup and I've put it back on my phone, but it still doesn't start

Is my phone still ok or did I broke my phone
MisterToine

Nobody who can answer that?
MisterToine
2008-04-08 17:53
This is the error I get when I hit FLASH:
What firmware are you using? You probably flashed the FAKE MAIN correctly, but the REST file is incompatible, I just helped out someone who did the exact same thing today.
You'll have to completely flash the phone. MAIN & FS, preferably to R4EA031, as that's the only one i have the REST for. Download the firmware & FS from
here and then read the guides on flashing & firmware
If you want me to tell you what files to use, post up your XS++ complete profile, it can be found in the log
Wally_Dog
2008-04-08 21:09
You can always make a REST file out of R4EK001... fairly easy
Then you do it Wally
MisterToine
2008-04-09 11:14
Aha! wizaj I'm downloading it right now. (not all, just those things I need. All firmwares for W810i and all the flash files and the original layout and menu things. I don't see any GDFS file for the W810i, or any language files, or media player files or scripts.) I don't download the tools because I already downloaded the one I need for your tutorial (unless you advise me to download another one

) So for MAIN and FS I better use R4EA031.
Thnx wizaj and sorry for my bad English (I'm Dutch, you see

) If I need other files from that torrent that I don't mentioned here, please say it
Thanks again!
Don't mention it!

Your English is quite good for a foreigner, to be honest, I couldn't tell. When flashing, don't forget your customization. If you choose the wrong one, you might lose the original languages that you need
\W-Phones\w810i\Firmwares\R4EA031\FS\Europe\W810_R4EA031_FS_EUROPE_2_RED49.rar
\W-Phones\w810i\Firmwares\R4EA031\MAIN\W810_R4EA031_MAIN_GENERIC_HN_RED49.rar
are the MAIN & FS most commonly used, I don't know what you'll prefer though. DO NOT use any other GDFS apart from yours, scripts won't be necessary at this time and if by media player files, you mean media player skins, the 176x220 are universal

And you don't need any other tools apart from XS++

Sometimes XS++ doesn't recognise my phone and somethimes when I'm flashing with XS++, I hear a Tum Tum from Windows saying that the hardware connected or disconnected. And then the flashing stops and it 'freezes'. Then I close XS++ and restart it, and then it doesn't recognise my phone anymore.

Any advise on that? =/
Anthony
I once experienced this because of a cable issue. Check that the cable is properly secured and that it's not constricted or coiled. Stretch it out, try installing it on another USB port. Refresh your phone before re-attempting to connect (Remove battery for a few seconds and insert)
MisterToine
2008-04-09 13:30
I've put my cable in another USB port, with no effect. I've also tried with refreshing my phone and looking at the cable, but no effect. I don't know why this isn't working for me

EDIT: I could connect my phone to XS++ now and I'm flashing it. Hope it works! The flash main firmware is 344files and the FS firmware is 161. It freezes around 110/344 of the main firmware. And it just happened again at 149/344

And I still can't start my phone
What about the FastPort of your phone? Is it dirty? And is your battery charged? It really looks like theres a problem in the connection loop
MisterToine
2008-04-09 14:00
The Fastport isn't dirty and before all of the modding with XS++ & FAR, the battery was about 83%. What could be my problem =/
MisterToine
2008-04-09 14:29
Also, Doesn't the phone reloads the battery if you connect the phone to the computer via USB?
It does, but the battery drains when you're in FLASH mode

I have found it! It's located here:
CODE
Start->Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> click on the USB Root Hub -> Right-click on it -> Properties -> Open the Power Management tab -> Clear the checkmark from Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. -> Click OK -> do the same for the second USB Root Hub
I've done it on Vista because my phone wasn't installed there. I'll try it now!
EDIT: It didn't work on Vista. I'm trying on this pc now (running XP) Also, you might be correct Mr. T! Those boxes were selected. I hope it works now

That's very odd, ... It gotta be your cable... Does it get stuck at the SAME point EVERY time?
Battery full? Ie 100% charged?
SIM and memory card out?
Tried taking out the battery for 30 seconds after flashing and closing XS++ after every attempt? XS++ wont find the phone if you read the GDFS for a backup, let alone flashing it.
If it hangs, just let it hang for a while. Chances are is that its doing something and it cant keep you up to date with what cos its busy doing something else, then something else etc until its done (this is particually true when uploading acoustics by the drag and drop, in fact vista says XS++ isnt responding)
Cant think of any other reason why it shouldnt work

Okay since none of the methods provided here are working for you,you can try one more thing.
Download setool lite(search for it and read the tutorials) .
Select w810i under the phone type and select the w810i rest file(based on your firmware) under the restore file.
Then hit flash..
Normally this works but since you tried to reflash the main..i cant say for sure.
Anyway try it ,it might work for you.
Snowiffic
2008-04-10 08:36
It won't work flashing the REST file, since he was reflasing the main and it failed, he need to reflash it fully. [Only Main though, FS is not needed.]
