My sister was using the internet on her W880 yesterday when the phone crashed. It will not power up now, and when it is plugged in to charge the battery only some buttons on the right hand side of the phone will light up. The rest of the buttons on the keypad remain unlit which is strange.
The phone is not modded, and is exactly as she purchased it. Is there any way I could connect the phone to some software to breathe life back into it, assuming that it might just be jammed or something? The only time the screen will come on is when it is connected to the PC or to the wall charger. I wouldn't have thought the battery would stop working just like that.
remove the batteri for 5-10 sec and if that doesnt work try updating it firmware with seus update
seus can you get here:

does the few keys that light up have a red tinge to them (around the C key and dpad?) this is where the it denotes a damaged erom (same as the red light at the top of K750 etc)
just noticed you said on the right hand side, this would be the right area, can you confirm if its red in colour and not the normal white LEDs. I think your erom is damaged
well if ti comes on, then i guess an erom can be flashed to the phone, right?

I have never had to fix a damaged erom myself (W880) should be easy to do though. does sound like it from whats been said and the area of the keypad which will light up. do need to confirm its red light and not white.

If its the EROM then use wotan to flash it for free. The EROM on my old K800 died for some reason and I used wotan to update it for nowt. It updates the same version you have on the phone. If its the red lights flashing then thats likely what it is. If this doesnt fix it, then send it back to SE (I think its Kuehne and Nagel that fix SE's in the UK) and theyll sort it. There is a 2 year warranty with all new SE phones (This was introduced as you can now get 24month contracts....)

Wow, 11 replies - thanks for that guys. I can confirm it was a red coloured light around the right hand side of the keypad. She brought it to a shop today and it turned out she can still have it fixed under the warranty so they will be taking it tomorrow. It was probably best I didn't tamper with it as that might have messed up the warranty. Although it's good to know I might have been able to do something with the software mentioned above. I'll tell her what is wrong with it.
