Hi all,

I've been spending some time on your site for the last few days because im looking to unlock my Sony Erricson P990i which is locked to the Orange network.

Im going to be really honest with you and say that I'm struggling to understand alot of whats being said on here so I'm asking you now to just point me in the right direction.

So far from reading these forums, I need:

SETool2 lite (1.11) and SimLocPatchGen v2.1 from Simon? off these forums.
A DCU-60 USB cable with 4 pins?
A P990i

I have these things now but I cannot get my p990i to be detected in SETools. firstly there is no entry for my phone in the drop down list in SEtools but have been told to use the K610i since its a DB2020 phone too? is that right?

Also when I start the identify process, I press and hold the C button aswell as inserting the USB cable at the same time does nothing. I have allready installed my phones drivers beforehand. is this right?

Am I doing something wrong here? Am I using incorrect software? or Hardware?

Please help me if you can, anything will be appreciated.

Try 2 search the forums I think i've saw a topic exactly for the smartphones...
But I think that in the tut xs++ v 2.2 is used

Right, I think i'm a little clearer now after viewing more topics on here, this is what i'm gonna try and do :

Firstly find and download my current firmware off the internet somewhere, when im going to make a "Quick Access File" with it.

I'll then use this firmware file in the UnlockKeyGenerator program from Simon to generate a code.

I will then load the firmware file aswell as the new unlock code file into SETools Lite and viola, phone unlocked right?

Can I ask just one thing, when I connect my p990i to SEtools for the first time, do I turn the phone off without the battery installed?

How do you mean turn off phone without the battery installed? :?
p.s phone must be turned off with battery in it when connecting... for "ordinary" phones

the new xs++ 3.1 has smartphone identification , use it instead of setool 2 lite , if it helps

you need the full version of setool 2/3 to unlock smartphones.

smartphones (p990/p1/w960 etc) use a different operating system from the likes of the k800 and w810 and cannot be patched afaik

Right, i'm almost done now but im struggling to find my firmware files? I need either a .bin or a .mbn file to use in Simon's unlock program.

I have Generic World1 installed on my p990i

Does anyone know where I can download these files from?

you realise this is for normal db2020 phones and not for smartphones?
as i said free db200x unlocking isnt supported

On a side note, I did get Orange UK firmware off very easy though,

I used Xs++ to change the CID to Generic World1 and then used SEUS to re download the latest firmware, which it picked up as GW1.

could I take the phone to a dealer in my local town to have the Simlock removed?

yes but it can be quite expensive

so from a cheap point of view, what can I do to get this unlocked?

I have the DCU-60 cabel, what software/logs/units to i need to purchase?

Does anyone know of a program I can use to browse the hidden FS part of my p990i via a computer?

you would need to purchase the SEtool box version, but i think its about £100 from fonefunshop.co.uk (or funfoneshop, whatever it is) and the logs are about £10-£30 (im not 100% sure though).

it would be cheaper if you took it to a local shop



afaik, that isnt possible on smartphones such as the p990
