Hello all, I've been lurking on this site for a few days now, reading up all you offer on flashing phones. Still a little confused as to if this will help my problem or not.
Dropped my baby, w300i, from about 3-4 feet on the street and a few hours later the external screen was messed up. Text was garbled and the stand-by clock no longer showed up. If I hit one of the side keys, it would return to normal. Phone still worked in perfect condition: could send/receive texts/calls, get voicemail, play games, etc. A few hours later from that, the ES quit working all together, had a faint orange glow that would not go away. Took out battery, SIM, M2 memory card and left alone for a few hours. Put phone back together, it did not fix the problem. The next day (yesterday) I got a WSOD that would disappear if I shut the phone and opened it before the ES went blank. Now, it doesn't matter what I do, sometimes I get a WSOD, or a washed out version of my menu screen or it looks perfectly fine. Backed everything up to my SIM and m2 stick, Master Reset phone. No go.
Took it to my carrier and they said "Have you Master Reset it? Oh, you have? Well, that's really the only thing we can do. You didn't have insurance, so that will be $185 for a new phone, plus a $20 transfer fee. And tax, of course."
So I bought a new unlocked phone off of eBay, screw my carrier. Jerks. I'm not paying $200 for a new phone when I can get one for $80, brand new. Sorry.
Now that I have a "dead" phone, I am willing to try flashing it. But my only question is, will flashing work? I saw one instance where a situation that was similar to mine where flashing worked, but I'm still nervous as to try it. I've never flashed before, and I already have a new phone, so I shouldn't be....
Sorry this was so long-winded. ;_;

Dont be sorry!

And well, it dosent seem like it was anything to do with software issues but actually i dropped my K550i down the stairs yesterday and got the WSOD when turning on and so i flashed it and it works fine! so its worth trying

Flashing can be done using many differant programs, your best bet, and easiest would be using SEUS
(Sony Ericsson Update Service) Which is pretty self explanatory and simple you can download it here:

Do you think its possible to us XS++ to fix it? If SEUS couldn't? *reads all tuts*
Also, thanks.

I appreciate the help

sorry I didn't say so earlier :/ I'm full of fail.

Hi all,
i have exactly the same problem with my phone. I updated the firmware from R9A035 CID49 to R4EA031 CID49 but nothing changed a bit. I begin to think of a hardware problem but i doesn't make sense. Does anyobody have an idea?
If you still have the W300i, I would suggest that you try to get it working. My W300i got WSOD, when the battery was being charged. I took it to the carrier (Movistar Telefonica in Colombia) and their *ignorant* technician said it could not be fixed. I then learned on the Internet that WSOD is a common problem with S.E. handsets. I paid
http://www.wotanserver.com/en/ 7 Euros (on 24DEC2007) and installed Generic firmware into my W300i. After that, I discovered se-nse.net IMHO you should try XS++ which you can download free on se-nse.net. If you can't get it working with XS++ (and possibly there is hardware damage) then maybe try wontanserver.com My W300i has CID 49 (Red) and I stayed with that. I installed a Generic S.E. Firmware for Latin America. One person I read about on the web had the opinion that Branded handsets have more problems with WSOD than those with Generic Firmware. My phone was unlocked after I used Wotanserver.com so I will not use SEUS again (that would probably lock the handset again). Before I used Wotanserver.com I tried SEUS, but I got the response that my W300i had the latest Firmware from SEUS.

Has anyone else done this with the same success? Or are there other proven methods?
