Full Version: HELP! I Think I Killed My K750i

Hi Guys, im hoping you can give me some ideas here.

I have a K750 with a faulty joystick. I read in several places that this is often caused by the stick becoming clogged with rubbish. So I decided to take the phone apart. I am normaly pretty good at dismantling electronics and re-assembling them, but this time I wasnt so lucky.

I followed this tutorial to the letter. Nothing seemed to go wrong in terms of having to force components or any worrying snaps or tears.

I then tried cleaning the parts, and here is where I may have gone wrong. I used nail varnish remover on cotton swabs to clean out the parts. I figured than an alchohol based solvent should be fine as long as I didnt drown the thing! Was this very stupid of me?

So then after having cleaned everything I rebuilt the phone (again nothing seemed to go wrong) but now It is totaly dead. When I try and turn it on there is no reaction from anything, no vibration, nothing on the screen, nothing at all. Im thinking this is probably because of my somehow frying the mainboard as surely damage to peripherals such as the keypad would at least let me turn the thing on!? The only reaction I can get is that the charging light does come on when plugged in to the mains. unfortnately this is little help though.

So im hoping against hope that someone here will give me a suggestion of what may be happening and I dont have to give the phone up for dead completely.

*crosses fingers*

HELP!!!!!

where is the on button on your phone?

your battery could be dead...

Give it a charge

thanks for the replies but im pretty certain that aint it. I cant even turn it on when its plugged in.

The power button is on the top of the phone as normal, though I have tried using a knife on the actual button attached to the PCB to make sure its not just a bad fit.

Looking at the thing further I have found that I may have done some damage to the little cable the connects the keypad to the Mainboard, there is a little hole torn in it (probably from when i was snapping the case off with a blade. thjough i dont see why that would stop it from turning on at all.

I will leave it charging overnight anyway just to be sure, but im thinking that its probably the wire. Can anyone confirm that if this goes it kills the phone so I know if its worth buying the replacement part?

Thanks smile.gif

Hmm, No it would just stop your keyboard working i think,

If you were me, I'd take it all apart again, then put it back together, making sure that all the connectors have good conections and all should be right as rain wink.gif

I have tried that a few times. I even tried the standard way I have of troubleshooting hardware, strip it down! I had nothing but the 3 connectors and battery in. No case or anything so i could see for sure everything was connected and it still didnt like it. Im going to leave it on charge overnight tonight so I can confirm for sure its not a power issue but outside that im totaly stummped.

Im guessing from no-one saying I was an idiot that cleanig with nail polish remover is an ok way to go?
Wally_Dog
Well, my go is that you turned it on right after cleaning it without it drying out 100%, so that it got fried sad.gif

Nail polish removers are based on acetone rather than on alcohol IMHO. I don't know if it can damage PCB's paintcoat. But if i were you i would try reflashing your phone. Cos' there are some capacitors in phone which may stay charged after battery removal and when they are shorted to right place (for. ex. by conductive screwdriver, knife) they can mess up data in eeprom.
Something similiar happend to me once: one little scre fallen on motherboard of computer messed up CMOS data. (although CMOS is volatile hence it's more probable that something like this happens).

sorry for my english
watchinthewheels
Your english was fine, thanks for the reply.

Your right about the nail varnish remover, didnt think that through!

Dont know how I can reflash without being able to power the phone on though, last time I think I bootedd into some debug mode using a usb cable and holding "C" was ages ago though as this is my old phone! Glad I didnt try it with my new W950 now!!!!!

soo how to solve this problem?.. any idea?.. n there is a second problem that the camera didn't capture the zoom while taking picture.. i think there maybe a problem in camera driver.. but after change the driver.. problem still continue again and again.. so hopefully there someone here that could help me to solve this problem A.S.A.P.

thanks in advance.

regards.
Ciggy
obviously the GDFS and IMEI won't match. the phone is W800@K750. the IMEI won't change because the phone was originally K750. that's normal. why would you want to use zoom? it sucks because it's digital zoom. what cam driver was/ is being used?
