Hey guys,

I have a k790i bought in India.

My main aim is to improve the sound quality. From where do I start ?

I have been reading a few thread related to the k800i on this forum but I am not able to really understand what I am supposed to do.

Can I use the k800i firmwares on my phone ? will it be bad ? And from where exactly do I download the firmwares and how do I install it ?

How do I know what firmware my phone is running at this moment ?

Please help smile.gif

Regards

Yes, you would be able to use K800i firmware on your phone but K800i sound is rubbish- that is why I have Peter's Acoustics Mods. I will give you the link for his page: http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=16379

Download XS++ here

Then take your SIM card and the battery out and reinsert the battery. Open XS++ and press Connect. It will say to hold C while inserting your USB cable and do just that. It will also tell you what firmware is running on your phone so you don't have to worry about that. Then at the bottom it says FSX- click it. Wait for all the folders to load up and navigate to ifs\settings\acoustic and then get the sound files that you got from Peter's Acoustics mod. Upload all of them, it will overwrite the files automatically. Then press Shutdown when you are done and voila, you have louder sound

I did everything you said but XS++ says it is unable to open communication port to the phone.

What could be the problem ?

Okay take out your battery again. And remove any memory card you might have (Like M2 memory stick) and SIM card (just checking) and put the battery back in. And by the way your phone MUST be off and it shouldn't have got into file transfer mode either (lights up screen and says "Do not unplug cable blah blah blah". I think you got the error because you didn't manage to connect it in 30 seconds.

If this fails use this guide from the Guides section: Uploading Files using Xs++ V3.1

Wait a minute- you need USB Flash Drivers! That might be why your phone is turning on when you hold down C. Get them here

Also for common errors go to http://www.topsony.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7999

I have done all that.

NO help at all.

I did reinstall my USB drivers (only after that did My Phone Explorer start working).

And the phone is switched off only. It is not ON.

Initially, it asked me to install drivers for some SEMC USB memory. But I didnt because I didnt know anything abt it.

EDIT: It worked. I used SEUS and it installed some more drivers.

Can I flash my phone to a walkman phone like the W850i or 950i ?

And will it give me better sound quality ? Coz that is all I am after.

Nope, the only approved cross-flash for K800i currently is to K810i, K770i has a few bugs in it. Walkman phones, don't even bother- most of them you are bound to lose the camera, memory card M2 functions, joystick and even the keypad functions! What we need is a patch that keeps all of the above and then gets the Walkman player and all the other good stuff! Just stick with adding the acoustics using Peter's Acoustics Mods that I posted in that post before. I think they still give better quality.
