Ok guys, hes the deal im from australia and i have just purchased this phone and it is branded to a provider called "Virgin" and it is branded and locked to Virgin. What i want to do is unbrand, unlock, and flash it to w580i

Im really not too sure what to do first but the files i have downloaded are
- XS++_V3.1_Darwin (i believe its the software i need to flash)
- S500_R8BA024_FS_ANZ_RED52.fbn (this is the stock s500i Firmware right?, and ANZ means Australia and New Zealand?)

We can discuss flashing to w580i later since it is not a priority and there is already a guide on how to do it on this forum

Hi there

Have you connected the phone to XS++? Judging by your post I would say you havent, and you are using the cable that came with the phone? Its called a DCU-10 in case you read that somewhere lol.gif

What you also need to work XS++ is some usb flash drivers, which you can download from this topic

Start XS++, hit connect, follow the prompts. Windows SHOULD detect new hardware, use the usb drivers for the drivers, XS++ should then tell you what colour, CID number, colour etc is. Something like this, though your phone will be different:

CODE
16:44:35| Hold 'C' button on phone and connect phone NOW.
16:44:35| You have 30 seconds...
16:44:35|

16:44:48| This is a PRODUCTION_ID loader
16:44:48| Activating GDFS...
16:44:49| Phone name detected!
16:44:49|
16:44:49| Profiling SEMC phone...
16:44:49| Platform: DB2010
16:44:49| OTP CID: 49
16:44:49| EROM CID: 49
16:44:49| EROM Color: Red
16:44:49| IMEI: 35540701xxxxxx
16:44:49| Phone ID: W810
16:44:49| Region: ORANGE_GEN
16:44:49| CDA: CDA102494/51 R12A
16:44:49| Firmware Version: R4ED001
16:44:49| EROM: n/a
16:44:49| Ready for operation!

Copy and paste the result into something like notepad and save the file (for future reference) Hit disconnect, then pull out the cable when it says:

CODE
16:47:02| Disconnected... Unplug the phone

If you copy and paste the result into this topic, Im sure someone else will come along and help you out as well

PS, if you flash your phone with the wrong colour and CID, it will turn it into an expensive paper weight, so check your phone out first please, and welcome to the site

yeh i was looking at the usb drivers, im running vista ult. sp1 and im not sure if i did it right but vista found the SE drivers for me and it works (it connects to MyPhoneExplorer)

For the GDFS i should be making a backup first right?

CODE
Start XS++, hit connect, follow the prompts. Windows SHOULD detect new hardware, use the usb drivers for the drivers, XS++ should then tell you what colour, CID number, colour etc is. Something like this, though your phone will be different:

when i do the above im just getting to info of my phone right? yes?

Right ok so you well and trully are a newbie at this smile.gif

Ok, BEFORE you do anything, disconnect the phone to your pc, turn the phone off, take the sim and memory card out, and put the battery back in. Do NOT turn the phone on

Run XS++, hit connect and follow the prompts.

Yes you can make a backup of your GDFS, its in a tab under XS++ but I cant remeber which one at the moment (just have a look for the tabs and then you will see the button, dont hit the write GDFS though) afterwards its done and says diconnect, unplug the cable, take out the battery and leave it out for about ten seconds then put your sim etc back in and it will be ok to turn on

Dont forget to copy your log to notepad and save it. You will need it quite a few times

EDIT:

lol.gif you mangaged to suss it before I added my reply

Ok so thats your phone. Congrats thumbsup.gif

Now here comes the hard part....

To turn your S500 into a W580, you need W580 firmware (or software) that is for RED CID52. Like I said in my previous post, this is important as get it wrong and you could end up with a dead phone

If you want your phone debraned, use the genric firmware

As for unlocking it, Im not too hot on that, but Im sure it is possible using another cable called a service cable, or a cruiser cable (the cruiser cable needs a 3v supply to it)

Have a little look around the forum, and see what you can find.

I think you are right in your question regarding the FS file you have downloaded, however I would turn your phone to w580 now we know the colour and CID of it now

Best of luck
ricometa

Depends what you wanna do. You have two options:

1: Flash your phone to debranded s500i like you said then flash it again to w580i at a later date

OR

2: bite the bullet, and go for s500 to w580i. Ive checked the guide post thats in this forum, and it will be compatible with your phone XS++ 3.1 MIGHT have a custom pack on it, if not I will have a look for you and put a link up for you to download it from

In either case, you will need your battery to be 100 percent charged

And I would just do the main method for the s500 to w580
ricometa
ok im not quite sure what you mean do you mean,
1. flash to s500i then later on flash to w580i

or

2. flash straight to w580i?

i would be more happy to go from s500i then to w580i

Going back to your first post, you said you wanted it debranded.

This means flashing it with s500i genric software, then you want it to w580i?

Im asking why? If you flash it with genric w580i, this will debrand it and turn it into a w580i

Im not here to to make your mind up, but flashing it with genric s500i firmware to me seems like a waste of time since you want to flash it to w580i firmware
ricometa
ah ok, i didny know i could flash it straight to w580i, i thought i had to do it in steps
but yeh if i could flash it straight to w580i that would be great

Ok

Well you know what topic to read for the w580 conversation

Go ahead with it, Im sure you will be fine

As for unlocking, heres an unlocking thread that will patch unlock your phone without the need for a service cable (failing that post theres probably another patch for it)

Hope this helps

cheers big G
