If you’ve been wondering how you can use your PC’s Internet connection on your Sony Ericsson A200 mobile phone, then wait no more because I have the answer for you!
But first of all, let’s make sure that your phone is really running the A200 platform - right now there are
K630, K660, K850, V640, W890, W910 & Z750 running this platform, but more will come in the future. The easiest way to know if it’s A200 or the old A100 is by looking at the softkeys - if there are two softkey options in the phone, it’s A100, if there are three, it’s A200. Quite simple, right?
Anyway, lets get on with it. Please note that you
must have PC Suite 3.0 installed on your computer and you have to have had the phone connected to the PC first, so all drivers have been installed and are working. Also please have in mind that I’m running a Danish version of Windows XP, so my translations might not be totally accurate with the English ones - and it may not be the exact same way to do this on Vista!
Now, first of all go to
Menu ->
Settings ->
Connectivity ->
USB ->
USB network ->
USB network type and choose
Via computer on your phone. Also make sure that your phone shows the USB mode-menu when plugging it to the USB cable.
Next go back to
Connectivity and then
Internet settings where you choose to
Allow local connections.
Connect your phone to your PC via the USB cable. Once you’ve done this you should have a new LAN Internet connection on your PC. If you have any doubts about which one it is, you should be able to see the text “
Sony Ericsson Device 117 USB Ethernet Emulation NDIS-5” in the right one (at least this is what is shown on my PC with my
K850).
- Next press the Configure a home or small office-network in Network connections on your PC.
- A guide will now pop up. Press Next, Next, mark the “Ignore network hardware that is not connected”, Next, choose the first option (This computer has a direct connection to the Internet […]) and press Next.
- Now choose your primary Internet connection and press Next.
- Next up mark only the LAN connection created by your phone (in my case it’s called LAN-forbindelse 3) - press Next.
- Again press Next, and now you must type in a name for the network - I’ve called mine for K850.
- Now the guide will ask you if you want to enable file sharing - there’s no need for that, so just disable it.
- After you’ve done so, it’ll configure the connections - this may take a few minutes (once it completes, just close the guide).
Lastly go back on your phone and go to
Menu ->
Settings ->
Connectivity ->
Network sharing -> and change the
Workgroup name to the one you said on the computer (in this case
K850).
That’s it! Now you can browse the Internet on your A200 mobile phone via your PC’s Internet connection
That good!
Does it charge me with the internet from the service provider?
In the screen shots, you need to change it to English. LOL
It will make use of the PC's internet connection, and thereby also the cost of this internet connection.
Unfortunately I can't change the language of Windows, so I've added small texts in the pictures, as you might have seen.
Unfortunately, this won't work on UIQ 3. I'll have to find a way that'll work on UIQ 3

Sounds cool

Does the
K610 or
W580 work with this? If I remember correctly, they have a usb network connection too.
Unfortunately not.
K610 and
W580 (well, A100's in general) can only work as modems, while new A200 phones can work both ways.

Could you help me please?
Thanks a lot.
I used the default web browser and that worked out quite fine.
Nice one Miz.
I might give that a go later.
I have never installed the SE software.
I just used MPE.
mine stays "acquiring network address" and doesn't do anything.
What im doing wrong?
Yo! what a good tutorial you've done!

Hi everybody,

I did everuthing, buh when I link my k660 with PC it stills uses my cellphone's connection and blows me over 1€ per time

anyway, could you help me plz? and, once I've done all rightly, will I connect to internet with my phone qith the "standard" internet button? Thanks..
non-English XP owns. i'm running trad-chinese-XP!!
nice, imma try it with my frd's K850
i was thinking if this could work, lol looks like it can
Well I can't get it to work with my K850i and Vista Home Premium. I've enabled ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on my laptop's regular wireless internet, got the phone's workgroup the same same as my computer's, but something, somewhere is blocking the phone from accessing the internet.
However, I can access the phone's user-accessible files from my PC if I set up a username and password. Seems connection might be working but Vista is blocking communication to the internet?

first, install all the USB drivers for your phone
on your phone, go to Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> USB -> USB network -> USB network type and choose Via computer
plug your phone in and choose "Phone Mode"
then make sure your phone appears as a network connection as an "Unidentified network". if it says "Network cable unplugged", then go to Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> USB -> USB network -> USB network type and choose Via computer again.
now it should appear as an "Unidentified network"
turn on ICS on your current internet connection
and you should be able to start browsing on your phone

How can i do this with a W850 on Vista?
http://techgeekonline.wordpress.com/2007/1...sing-broadband/ <- is this method working for me?
on my k850... i just activated ICS on my wireless network (for others, there network connection with internet) and net works... this is in vista ultimate 64bit
Hi guys,
Thanks for the tutorial. I tried it on my W760i, but I still can't access the internet thru the USB cable. My PC can detect the W760i as a network adapter. After creating a new LAN connection for my phone, there isn't any received/sent data packets (viewed from PC). Here's my settings :
1) USB Network Type -> "Via Computer"
2) Network Sharing name checked
3) "Allow local conn." -> On
4) Streaming settings -> "USB Ethernet"
5) Streaming settings -> "Allow local conn." -> Yes
Some simple questions.
1)
Do I need to modify the settings under "USB Ethernet"? In here, i can set the IP add, subnet, Gateway, DNS, etc. By default, it is all blank.
2) My PC can detect the phone as a network adapter (see picture). I've created a new LAN connection, and then share my internet LAN connection. A window setting pops out saying that the IP address of my phone network needs to be
192.168.0.1. Is this correct?
Thanks!

Because its cool! Plus, you can save pages from say opera mini, then look at them offline later.
/\ download mobile content also that may be blocked by service provider.
Here in tnt, Bmobile only has access to their site alone. Plus its free and its very fast
Using a Usb with vista:
1.i tried the vista method stated above but ics would work once then stop. why? i dunno

-

when i restart vista, ics stops working and sometimes if a set it to get the ip and dns address for my phone automatically i would go to the tcp/ipv4 settings later to find it assigns a static ip address for it but no dns address so pages will never load. the best setting that worked is the static ip(your pc assigns this) and dns address(you have to put this in as its blank). you can use these preferred and alternate dns addresses if your provider did not give you any:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
you have to turn connection sharing for your lan connection off then on again for ics to start working again if ics stops after a restart.if the pages still dont load then reconnect the phone. to get the connection to work with avira's antivirus firewall i had to delete a rule about the icmp protocol. done with a w902
2.i tried the method that needed the sony ericsson sdk, java and opera- i saw a guide on sony's website for debugging jp7 and jp8 phones. they troubleshooted an issue with the vista firewall where it blocked the icmp protocol which would not allow the phone to connect to a program called "connectionProxy".when the sdk is installed it allows for the icmp protocol to be implemented for the phone's connection by putting this rule in the firewall and sony showed u how to configure the firewall if that protocol is blocked. thats where i got the icmp protocol idea but i didnt go any further with this method as u can only use one java application at a time.
N/B:
-this all couldve suddenly started to work because of the sdk.if you were desperate to get this to work like me you would install this and the java first, but either way you will get somewhere.
-ics will not work if your lan connection has a static ip address.
-turn off your firewall before trying any of this. if it works now then your firewall will have to be configured to allow the connection.
-i disabled ipv6 for both connections. dunno if that helped though
-other obvious reasons could be that you did not turn on "Allow local conn." and usb network type: Via computer in your phone
Looks good, been wondering how to do this!
However any one have any ideas to do the same, only over Bluetooth?

Been trying this for a few days on my W760i, and *almost* got it to work. There seems to be an issue with ICS and the phone or something.
The basic procedure is the one we already know: enable "via computer" on the phone settings menu, and plug it in the pc on "telephone mode".
Well, now you should have that new Local Connection on your pc. By default Windows sets it with automatic ip (what may cause "limited connectivity" under Vista, although it seems to work anyway), but I found out that setting the static ip under the range 169.254.xxx.xxx works fine too - E.G., on the pc, set ip 169.254.0.1, and subnet mask 255.255.0.0. (This may be useful after you enable ICS, since it always messes up with network config when activated).
Until now, everything is fine.
I've tested with 2 pcs, my desktop with WinXP SP3, and my notebook with Vista Premium SP1.
Just for testing, on both I have http Apache servers installed. Thru the phone, I could access the local pages normally. I could even ping (!!!) the phone. Perfectly, on both computers.
But ICS, doesn't seem to work no matter what I do. Seems to be no problem with the pcs either, since I already use ICS on the desk to share my dsl connection with the notebook via a wifi adapter.
I think I made some advance, but still no solutions. Am I doing anything wrong? D:
EDIT: btw, for people that gets an error when enabling ICS... check if in your network is there any computer with IP 192.168.0.1. That's the ip ICS sets for the local connection when enabled. Just disconnect that pc, or change its IP, and activate ICS. Now set back the local network ip from 192.168.0.1 to auto, or to the one I said above, and reconnect/reconfigure the other computer's ip.
