Full Version: W810i - Sound Upgrade Or Complete Mod?
SE-NSE Forums > SE Firmware > Newbie Forum
moonwarrior1
Hello there, I have come to your rather knowledgeable board via an excursion from Google looking to see what I can do to increase the audio output (acoustics) for my Sony Ericsson w810i.

I am familiar with the risks of bricking as I have moded my PSP before. wink.gif and I’m good at following detailed instructions.

I spent the last hour attempting to search through this site and sit here in wonder at the extent of info.

I'm a techy and have had lots of fun with moding my different devices though I hadn't really thought about my cell phone as modable (don't ask Just never really thought about it). Anyway to get to the point as most have no doubt found the w810i is very poor for sound output. (Noisy bus and can’t hear the person on the phone at all) so my primary goal would be to up the audio but if it is more feasable (or probaly better over all) to just flat out mod it wink.gif that works too.

These are the files and links I found
I have found the 810i signed usb drivers (not clear yet what they are needed for)

I have found the w810i Accoustics file (sounds.rar) as well as Rakista’s acoustics
http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtop...rt=#entry173338
but not sure which is the better choice to work from.

and also the "XS++ v3.1" Firm ware program. However I'm stuck at figuring out which guide is relevant or would be the best to follow for me mainly wishing to just alter the sound at this time. (However I am suspecting that it’s probably a complete firmware alteration I’ll have to do)

I found one guide that refers to some of a direction but not sure if this is what I should be using

http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?s=&...cs&cal_id=0

And finaly I found this “all in one mod” for my phone. that looks rather interesting
http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=14615 SE-NSE ModPack v1.0 FINAL

Any sugestions? or helpful advice to point me into the right direction would be muchly appreciative.
Derek

in short do a full mod. install the USB drivers. this allows the phone to be detected as a flash device. next install XS++ v3.1 and connect to it and let us know what firmware your phone has.
moonwarrior1
Okies so the Usb drivers same as on my cd, here I've been thinking they where an extra for the actual phone somewhere (duuuh) and the files i've been adding on memory stick before so I am familar with that process.

Ran the program here's the results most you probaly don't need but better to be consistant

Thanks for your help.
Ciggy
ok... so what exactly do you want to do with your phone? what do you want it to do?
moonwarrior1
Well my primary goal is to get the sound to actualy hear a person on it properly.

from what else I read on here there are alot of features that are available but mostly just hinted at (I've got alot of surfing to go i guess)

Some nice things I wouldn't mind is the camera sound removed, fast forward (faster) in any videos I play (just read about that one).

Other then those three I don't know the full benefits I can get by modding my phone. though i'm not against alot of stuff to tinker with the sound would be the primary reason to up it, plus to play music louder would be nice.

What would your recomendation be?

Derek
Ciggy
surf the topics in customizing firmware. look for W810i acoustics, get setool2 lite, search for cam drivers (recommended sarmads 5.8 driver) and check the W810i patches topic. i can't write the instructions what to do because i'm feeling very sleepy... it's like after 9 PM here
moonwarrior1
Thanks for the replies,

I appreciate the direction to look and the info in general.

If you think of anything else I should consider don't hesitate to sugest it,
Pleasant dreams.

Ciggy when you have time would you give me a bit more of a hand,

I've found "http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=11580"

W810i Acoustic Mix

I tried downloading the newest file " TVH_v8.rar ( 57.38K )"

But obviously I'm missing a step on how to merge it onto my phone, this leads me to a a few questions that you can answer tomorow if you'd like smile.gif

1)Do I have to "modify my phone first before using patches / or updates such as this?
2) would I not use a different program besides XS++ v3.1 (which from what I read is a complete flasher not an editor, and what I "think" i want is to replace some files?
3) if I was too download a "patch" what do I have to watch out for? that it's compatible to my firmware version? R4ED001

~continues to dig through these posts trying to gain an understanding~

Derek
Ciggy
1. nope... wait, where are you from? Canada? i'll be able to help you fully if you tell me what i need to know. i need to know this so i'll know what firmware you should use.

2. ummm... download FAR Manager and SeTool2 lite 1.08

3. your FS (File System) is R4ED001 so i guess your Main firmware should be R4EA031 but when you get setool2 lite let me know. you apply patches to Main not FS.
moonwarrior1
Thanks for the info again. I am from Canada, Ontario

I have the following files.
Far manager + SEFP010044.zip + sefp010051.rar + db2010cid49_4_alpha.rar.zip
(I have not installed these plugins yet but from the looks of this one page I'm sugested too)

Saved : setool2lite.rar

Main / Fs are the two locations for flashing on my phone correct?

Thanks again, I have to head to work now but I will check forums this evening.
Derek
Ciggy
ok, yes the Main is like the OS in your pc and the FS is like your Hard drives (in computer terms) and your custpack can be compared to WINDOWS folder (in windows pc).
moonwarrior1
Do I instal both those patches? What other information should I get for you?

Far manager + SEFP010044.zip + sefp010051.rar + db2010cid49_4_alpha.rar.zip
(I have not installed these plugins yet but from the looks of this one page I'm sugested too)

should I be downloading any other fiels? when do I integrate this into my phone? TVH_v8.rar ( 57.38K )" - Sound Acoustics

Derek

Hello once again,

I've installed far manager without any plugins that where downloadable seperatly. I instaled setools2lite and nearly had heart failure when it started accessing my phone and suddenly my phone stoped working all together.

Fixed that so it's back to as before. I assume I either stoped it at wrong point or had wrong phone selected.

So now that I have this program on my pc and accessible. What information do I need to do for the accoustics?
(I'm also going to check see if I can figure this out myself but your expert opinion would help me greatly here.

Derek
Ciggy
read this topic on how to upload files with it SETool2 lite

read how to access your FS with FAR Manager FAR Manager

and also here's a guide to uploading files using XS++ v3.1
Uploading files using XS++

if you need help with flashing, i'll gladly help you. but it doesn't make sense that i write a full tutorial for you if there are so many, which is why i gave you the links above.
moonwarrior1
Hey man thanks! those are just what I need to gain a proper understanding to not screwing my phone up seriously. I'm just way too newbish and way too much info without a few good pointers. and a nudge in the right direction I should be good with those links.

Once again thanks alot I realy appreciate the help
Derek
Ciggy
if there's no tutorial for something i don't mind explaining it. what else you need to know. for the acoustics, search the members and find TVH, hyper_t or ToShaRa. they make good acoustics for our phone.
moonwarrior1
Hello Ciggy or anyone else looking along the lines of what I have, This is what I've done / found and notes for myself so far.

Notes of my processes if anyone interested:

1) ran and installed XS++ v3.1 to find out some phone info
2) installed usb drivers (Same as are on sony cd)
3) ran XS++ program and turned phone off holding C pluged the usb cable in
4) copied the info Important info seems to be the
"Firmware version"(R4EA031 or R4DB005 (Maybe others I don't know)) and the
"security level" Eprom CID= 49 (highest security at this time I guess)
5)Done with this program so unplug usb and close the xs++ program

So now that I had that info I had to find out how to "patch" my phone accorden to Ciggy
i should use setool2 lite The below link refers to that page
http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtop...amp;mode=linear

I downloaded and installed it but I was very confused on the steps to take, and actualy
killed my phone for a minute there so deffiently be very carefull.

6) Run setools2light after extracting to a folder
7) Backup your GDFS info Click on the READ button (Read means backup) (write means

flashing GDFS) Make sure you follow the instructions carefully and WAIT for the backup

to complete The process involved was click on read GDFS button, hold down C on phone and
connect the ubs cable.
I also made sure to do a "Read flash" backup as well. these files are stored in the
extracted folder of setools2light 2 (BIN) files save these somewhere as a backup for the
future.

Now comes the fun part. Finding a patch that is for your "firmware version" as well as
a patch that you want to implement on your cellphone. in my case I chose a simple

alteration of the battery icon to purple so that I could see right away if my flashing
worked.

8) View this forum for an image that shows the "steps" to follow.
http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=13159 ( Reading this post helped me alot)

9) extract the "patches" for your firmware model to a folder that you can easily browse

to. This is where I found the ones that I was using:
http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=13164
http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=15026 (Description and download)

I chose the w810i_patches_26.08.07.rar ( 26.03K ) saved and extracted to a folder
on my desktop.

10) opening up setools2light if it was not already open.
11) choose your phone model exactly (I almost bricked my phone cause I didn't)
12) under Misc files click browse and choose the "VKP" file in the folder you extracted.
(In my case on the desktop) then
13) click on the "Write script button"
14) you are asked to plug the phone into the usb cable as well as holding down C.
15) WAIT till told to remove battery unplug usb remove battery Connect usb cable and

click ready.
16) you will be asked do you wish to apply patch or remove patch. (Apply ='s no)
Now done smile.gif

:-/ Still trying to figure out how to integrate (I can access the files via the tutorial you linked me but I don't know where I should be merging the files into. or where to create folders if needed.) I have the two driver files but no clue where to put it lol.

Acoustics I chose: (hyper_t's driver)
http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtop...mp;#entry144274

Camera Drivers I chose:Sarmads 5.8 cam driver

Yah sorry for long winded but figured no harm in posting what I have learnt/links I found most useful.

Ciggy where can I get the sarmads driver? (NVM I finaly found it ) smile.gif and the files for these patches I can't download any other links you might know?

Changes the recorded video files extensions from 3gp to mp4
Moves acoustic driver to memory stick
Remove high volume warning message on ringtones
Changes all system sounds extension to mp3 (Download link here);
Enables fast forward/rewind of mp3 and video files on mediaplayer (Download link here);
Enables missing calls reminder with glowing flashlight & vibration (Download link here);
Ciggy
that chagning extension from .3gp to .mp4 doesn't work well. remove that. my advice make sure your Main firmware is R4EA031 Main Generic because that is the most patchable Main. and ever so often go in today active topics on the home page and click on W810i patches (that's topic is always active) and most of the patches posted there are for R4EA031 Main Generic.

don't bother with the read flash function it doesn't make sense for us W810i users because it's just safer to flash your Main and apply over the patches you want. the read flash function is to make a backup of your Main.
moonwarrior1
Okies I have succesfully updated the main goal that I had been so confused on.

Using this link you gave " http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtop...mp;#entry188402
as well as the XS++ program for modifying

The key that actualy helped cause none of the actual forums i have viewed actualy mentioned this.
(Hyper was so kind as to actualy provide the file path to the folder as his directory structure for copying the file over)
hyper_SE-NSE_acousTic_v6\ifs\ifs\settings\acoustic

Once I figured out that the "IFS\settings\accoustic" refered to the location on the cellphones directory structure I just draged and droped the files and it auto deleted and copied (Another thing not mentioned).

and of course the camera driver is located there as well (it's own folder) so that solved two problems all at once.

Oh and the read function was cause i wanted a backup.

Thanks for the info on the mp4 issue.

As for that main site i assume it is this one " http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=15026 " w1810i VKP Patches" and that 's the page I was refering to with the links not working.

Well I am happy, my priority was the acoustics and I muddled my way through that one finaly. I did the cam driver but I haven't played with it too much yet. Added just a battery patch and the radio patch. the only other one I might want for sure is the faster fastforward/rewind if i play a video.

Thanks for the general nudges plus about 6 hours atleast of researching and cross referencing i did what I set out to do. I hope the posts further up that I did of all my steps helps someone if they are having the confusions that I did.

Peace out,
Derek
Ciggy
this is the site i was talking about... W810i Patches

the reason i made you made thos threads is that you would get a full understanding of what those software can do apart from just uploading files. and also to increase your understanding of modding so you could help others as well. again i must say that you should back up your Main... it doesn't make sense. plus the base address is the same but the length varies so that's why no one really recommends backing up patched W810i Main.
moonwarrior1
I think we have some confusion, I thought I did backup my main by doing the Read flash and read gdfs options.

ahh I saw that page and was browsing, just the patches that where downloaded did not contain a full description and some just say things like "Fast rewind long mp3 and video files W810i R4EA031.vkp" I " think" that refers to fast rewind and fast forward but I am not sure and haven't delved deep into that page more then first 30 pages.

I do appreciate your help it was just hard to piece together what was and was not relevant that was why I posted what I did if someone else found my post in the future. kinda like a list of notes like not to disconect phone when I panicked and saw it writting flash when it was only supposed to "read".

gdfs_35657401475355.bin (my backup of gdfs i did)
read_44000000_00020000_35657401475355.bin (I assumed this was my main I backed up)

Derek
Ciggy
that backup of the main is wrong. the start address of w810i is 44140000. that address and length is for W800/ K750. please understand when i say don't use a back up of the Main. the GDFS backup is more than enough to keep your phone in a working state. just note that your GDFS can't be used on another phone and someone else's GDFS can't be used on your phone because it will kill the phone.
