Okay, so I've done a lot of research and swimming through the posts of flashing and I've gathered all my questions..

I read the thread of XS++ as well, I also have XS++, and the flash drivers. IF i were to go through with this flashing,

what files would I need to "mod" this phone? Also, is it wise to flash a w580i that is branded to Rogers? ALSO.. if I go

through the steps of this tutorial - Flashing/GDFS-operations/Uploading files with XS++, Guide to flashing your phone with XS++

would that mean my phone is flashed? or would i need some other file in order to get flash menus etc.?

Sorry to those who read this and get angry.. I just want to make sure before going through with this because it

seems easy enough. Thanks in advance.

You will need to do an update with SEUS, the sony ericsson update service, The software to use is called XS++, You will also need a main, a fs=file system and a custom pack to get your phone unbranded. I dont know the advantages of un-branding a rogers handset as im in the uk, but some service provider put restriction on phones with their branded firmware like no bluetooth transfers or not being able to use mp3 as a ringtone, also the flash menus are normally disabled, Unbranding will also remove all service provider links and menus. I hope this clears things up a bit, If you want to flash it PM me and i will help you find the right files.

Well some providers ACTUALLY bloke the shake control and light effects on the w580i!!

I suggest you go to http://www.iprotebe.cz and click on the english flag at the top and then get your main and fs iprotebe does not do custompacks for w580i so i suggest either making a thread, go on topsony, or go to the download section and if none of them work pm me cuz i have a link to generic w580i custom pack.

I have a undranded w580i from Rogers (yeah they suck).

You will need the following files:
A w580i GENERIC main file
w580i AMERICA 1 fs (filesystem) file
And a custom w580i custompack. I recommen the Laura_i custom pack

I also debranded my w580i with Rogers, I used the generic DB2020 America_1 custpack from the download section of the site. Not sure of the difference with the Laura_i custpack, but it works great for me

The laura custom packs seem to be a more compatible, not sure why but only the laura cust packs worked for me.

I was taking a quick look at the customize.xml of the laura_i generic_trade_usa custpack and the generic db2020 america_1, the only difference I can notice between the two that would cause problems would be the CDA number.

The laura_i was using CDA102774/20 (not listed on TopSony, although the listed languages are the same as America_1, could be a generic CDA number or smething) and the generic was using CDA102568/106 (listed as America_1 on TopSony). So I guess you should check the CDA number before flashing with whichever custpack you choose to use.

Can you please. Planning on getting phone from Rogers as well. Free 8Gb memory card w/ hardware upgrade. But do you guys think its a good phone? I have w810, like it allot.

I upgraded to a w580i from a w810, and I love the w580i. The camera is not as good (no autofocus, light) but the size of it and the bluetooth v2 makes it up for me

does shake work after unbranding for rogers?
