You can also try to use iLock

QUOTE
Download or click images and store them behind a password. iLock is a great utility to lock personal images behind a password. A great utility with a great User Interface. It even has a slideshow function.
Ixalon
Hey, fantastic... Guess who wrote that little application?

Small world! tongue.gif

Edit: BTW, you can always get the latest version by pointing your phone to download http://www.ixalon.net/FileProtect.jad. By using this signed JAD allows you to go to permissions and set it to not bother you about requiring read/write access to the filesystem smile.gif

I have some ideas for improvements such as being more theme-friendly and supporting different encryption types (it only encrypts using DES at the moment). However I wouldn't expect a new version soon - I've currently got more interesting things to scheme wink.gif

i don't know if you are aware of 'readmaniac' application. generally it's an application for reading e-books inside j2me phone. there's quite long discussion about possibilities to sign this midlet, it's seems here's no good solution, just frustration.

i see that you signed 'file protect' with thamwe certificate and i would like kindly ask you if you were so nice and also sign jsr-75 sony ericsson version of 'readmaniac' and share the 'jar' and 'jad' files with others. i'm sure, many of us would appreciate it, thanks.
ares
He can do it only for apps developed by him wink.gif We have to wait for what ixalon develops in future wink.gif

I would pay a small amount by paypal if he comes with free txt readers, pdf readers, etc in java, and i think most people in the k750 comunity would do the same...

So ixalon, launch the betas of interesting products, and advertize it, and i will contribute something to finance your work, and help making publicity of it wink.gif

Need some help on how to install this application.

Please help.
MikLSP
It is a Java application. You can get the .jar installer from the link in the first post.

Once you have the .jar file simply transfer it to your phone by USB cable, Bluetooth or IR and the phone will ask if you want to install it. The rest is self explanatory wink.gif

PS- should you ever try to download a java app and you get a .zip file with lots of small files inside then just rename the .zip file extension to .jar as a .jar is a type of zip file
Frank
Can you please contact me on MSN.

my msn : frank_32_9@hotmail.com

Thank you very much
Ixalon
Another way to install it is to enter the following address into the browser on your phone:
http://www.ixalon.net/FileProtect.jad

On a semi-related topic, now the firmware is more stable, I'm beggining to investigate creating a PDF viewer for the phone smile.gif

What more do you need to know? All you need to do is transfer the .jar file to your phone basically and the rest is done for you (with your confirmation) wink.gif
Frank
because can't change the extenstion of the file.

and the ready file (protectfile.jad) is corupted.
MikLSP
If you can't change the file extensions then you need to set your windows to show them.

Open up any window that is not an application i.e. My Documents or something similar and press View at the top, then go to Folder Options and select the View tab. Here you need to deselect the option "Hide extensions for known file types".

If you have a .jad file then that is not the proper java installer and it is basically a link which will make your phone go online and download the game contents rather than getting them from the installer. Personally I never bother with .jad files as they are much more hassle than they are worth
Frank
Hey, thanks smile.gif But when i go to install it it tells me operation fails. Do you know why.

Thanks for responding
MikLSP
On the phone do you mean?

Is that using a .jar or a .jad file?

Also where are you trying to install it and is there enough available memory? smile.gif
Frank
Yes on the phone.

I am using .jar

and there is about 20 MB left. and i am puting the file in the phone memoery then in others folder.
SBS_Transit
I have downloaded the link in the 1st post, how ever i cant get it on my phone, after unzipping the file i get many diff files in 1 folder. what do i do now ?
MikLSP
Right I have just downloaded the file from the page in the link at the top of this thread, specifically THIS FILE

The file I received was File_Protect.jar

There is no need to rename this or unpack this or do anything at all with it.

I connected my W550 to its USB cable and transferred the .jar file into the Other folder.

I then disconnected the phone from the computer and went to the phones File Manager and into the Other folder where I find the file named File_Protect which I just transferred.

The file has a java icon before it and the left softkey reads "Install".

Pressing Install brings up a short loading bar and a PLease Wait message quickly followed by a screen called "Save In:" where you can choose where to install the application (either in Applications or Games)

NOTE: As my W550 has only internal memory I don't get an option to save to a Duo so you may get another screen asking this.

I chose Applications and within 1 scond the phone tells me the app has been saved in Applications folder in the phones memory and then asks if I would like to start the app now? Yes or No...

I pressed Yes and the app starts.

The app first aks if you want to allow it to read user data and then if it is allowed to write user data to both of which I pressed yes.

The File Protect java application is now running, it was as simple as that tongue.gif
Frank
ok at last it worked. I was doing it .jad and not .jar.

Thanks thumbsup.gif

Is there a Folder Protector for the k750i
MikLSP
Glad to hear you finally got it sorted thumbsup.gif
SBS_Transit
Need help, i am still unable to install the program, i downloaded the file in your link and transfered it to my w550i by usb cable to others folder, the file is inside but somehow i dont seem to find the install button? shy.gif
MikLSP
Well what do you see on the softkeys when you move your cursor over the file in the phone?
ares
ixalon, glad to hear about the pdf reader thing wink.gif

a unprotected file explorer would be also nice...i have a opera mini version with file explorer, but it has all the dreadfull read/write restrictions...
Ixalon
I read over the PDF specs - my lord - complicated stuff. Will have to see if I can find a LZW and Flate implementation I can get to work in J2ME before I can come up with anything useful.

@ares
What sorta features would you want in a file explorer? Normal file operations (rename, delete, copy/cut from one location and paste in another location) - viewing of supported files types, send via email/mms/ir/bluetooth?
ares
ixalon, those would be nice wink.gif you can start with the basic ones, like the opera version i mentioned has

another essencial app would be one that lets you add repeating events to the calendar via the PIM API - that would avoid always having to use the pc for that - can it be done???
donnos
hmm....long time since anyone posted a reply here..
btw i'm having a w800i and wanted to install the file protect programme.. so i've donwloaded the java file_proctect.jar and install it

everytime i run it.. it always ask me to allow application to read/write...

i've read around... they said to overcome this matter..i should directly point my phone browser to www.ixalon.net/FileProtect.jad

but whenever i do that.. i says downloading fail... anyhelp please??
ares
you have to install the jad first
donnos
i did try to install the .jad first...but whenever i click install it says downloading failed...same goes if i direct my browser directly to the link
anokewee
Thanks for the heads up! Will check it out soon..
g-roxx0304
ixalon,
if you can make this program better,we'd all would love it.

Guys, firstly thanks to ixalon for this very useful app, if he can add support for multiple file encryption instead of single individual files, that we be most handy.

Anywayz the reason why you are have the 'download failed' error is because there is a slight error in the .jad file or should I call it a misrepresentation confused.gif

Problem

If one looks within the .jad file ...where you have the ...URL tag. when executed or you click on install, its looking for the FileProtect.jar file in the same path as the FileProtect.jad but the jar file that is downloadable from links within this thread is named - File_Protect.jar. So basically when your phone is reading the .jad its looking in the same folder for the FileProtect.jar as specified in the code but it cant find it, as it is named File_Protect.jar. blink.gif

Solution

So the simplest way to get it to install/work, so you dont have to answer yes to file read and write access every second when using the app, is to rename the File_Protect.jar. to FileProtect.jar before transfering it to the phone and subsequently when you execute or install the .jad file, it will now install ok and also transfer the FileProtect.jar to the Application folder etc.

After installing the .jad file by clicking install on the FileProtect.jad file on your phone, remember to then go and set the file permissions on the FileProtect.jar app in the Application folder by highlighting it and clicking on MORE on the right and then set permissions to NEVER ASK for both 'Read User data' & 'Write user data'.

Enjoy... thumbsup.gif

I would like to know whether fileprotect is a freeware or shareware? I downloaded without the need to pay.

I got it from http://www.ixalon.net/FileProtect.jad. Dowloading directly from there allowed me to disable all the prompts for accessing the user data.

I just hope it's not a trial version.

Hi Ixalon,

I got both .jad and.jar from ixalon.net transferred them to others folder in my w810i and installed it.

I am able to install .jar directly but cannot install via .jad so iam having to give permissions to each read and write. Please help me out.

Also the encrypt / Decrypt button on the app dosent work when clicked but worksuusing the soft keys.
MikLSP
I would never bother with .jad files as they d/load the content I believe.
The .jar is a straight forward direct installer and is the only way I install java apps
dileepd11
Jar is the direct installaton but without the .jad installation we would have to manually give permission for each and every read write operation the application performes. Its really very annoying to give both these permissions for each subfolder we browse. .Jar installation is ok for apps or games that do not read/write to/from the file system. but read/write apps need the .jad certificates badly.

Can any one figure out why the installation via .jad shows operation failed when the .jar file itself is working ok? I am surprised to find the .jad file on Ixalons home page itself erroring out and no one has brought it to his notice.

Anyway i have PMed him. Hope he responds. I would also like to know about the status of his development plans for a pdf reader. It will be a truly useful app.
dileepd11
No sign of Ixalon yet. Hope he is still around with a solution.
