A lot of people seem to be having trouble debranding and customizing their W810 CID 50 phones. So here it is.
It's actually really easy.
***I'm not responsible if you screw up your phone***
**I've heard that people are bricking their phones using setool2 lite. So I'll say this once, proceed with caution**
*You don't have to debrand to customize*

Files:

You need to get the Main and FS for the W810 CID50 that works for your phone
you can search around, but heres the ones I used for my phone (I'm not sure if it will be the same)

and the FS :W810_R4ED001_FS_ORANGE_GEN_RED50.rar,
You can also get the W810_R4ED001_FS_AMERICA_2_RED50.fbn from:

If theres another one you want, you have to look for it.

Also go to the custom files and download one of them, I'm not sure how much it matters which one, but pick one in your region.

And lastly download setool2 lite 1.08 from http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=13115.


Debranding:

Backup the stuff that you want to keep, themes on your phone, maybe the internet/mms settings.
after it's backed up, pull out the memory card and the sim

Open setool, and in the "files" section add, the Main then the FS. Then press Flash.
So now you need to customize, otherwise you'll get a configuration error (you can try it and see if you want)
Make a directory tpa\preset\custom and put the custom files in there. e.g. C:\tpa\preset\custom, go back to c:\ and then zip the tpa folder so you have a file like tpa.zip (containing all the subdirectories and the contained files). In Setool add it to Misc files and then press the flash button.

Once that's done you're phone should be debranded. And everything should work fine, you can now use mp3 ringtones and flash themes.
If you backed up your mms/internet settings, you can put them in now. Alternatively you can go to www.sonyericsson.com, choose your region/language, then at the top menu select support. Select WAP/MMS, fill in the info (phone number, provider, etc) and the settings will be sent to your phone.

Custom Drivers, Flash Themes, etc.:

If you don't want to debrand but just want custom drivers, thats pretty easy too, just do the following without debranding.

To get custom camera drivers find the driver you want and make the directory with the camera driver in it:
e.g. ifs\settings\camera\camdriver0.dat
make a zip e.g. ifs.zip with the above subdirectories and camdriver0.dat. Open setool, add it to misc files section and then press the flash button.

Same thing for the audio driver: ifs/settings/acoustic/.

For flash themes, download the flash themes you want. To put them on the phone put them in this directory
tpa\preset\system\desktop\flash, zip it like before, add to misc and then flash.

If you haven't debranded then your flash themes might not work, possibly because there is a file that might be in the flash folder in the phone called "disableflashdesktop." So open up notepad and copy this into it "delfile:/tpa/preset/system/desktop/flash/DisableFlashDesktop." Add to Misc Files, and press "write script." Try to see if the flash themes work now. If they still don't then you have to edit the customize.xml.

I haven't tried it yet, but I will later, here's the instructions verbatim.




Directories in the phone (the FS):

Here basically the only ones you need:

Flash menus: /tpa/preset/system/desktop/flash
Audio drivers: /ifs/settings/acoustic/
Camera driver: /ifs/settings/camera/camdriver0.dat
Customization files: /tpa/preset/custom

FAQ:

Q: When flashing with a zip, it only flashes the files in that zip? Or will it erase everything else in that directory on the phone or just add to it?
A: It won't delete anything that isn't in the zip. It will however replace anything with same names as the files in the zip with the zipped files.

Q: A lot of patches I have found are .vkp files, is it possible to use them on my CID50 phone
A: vkps cant be executed right now on CID 50,because SeTool cant read CID50, it can only write. (thanks to paris2k for answer)

Q: How do I know what files are in my CID50 W810
A: You can't really copy the files out of the phone with setool, but you can use setool to figure out files are in each dir using the following script: readdir:/starting/dir/in/phone. It will make 0byte files with the name of files in the phone. It's a good way to find out what's in the phone just in case you want to delete something.

that's handy stuff mate, a billion times more informative than the actual "instructions" ( very lose term) that came with release of thee tools' lite tool.
this tools' tool can do everything we need done to cell other than unlock/repair for nowt, but because so many have bricked phones with it i think people are reluctant to use it.

1- they never used it in the first place
2- the "almost" random gui design was altered by adding 1 frame or maybe a 10 pixel button shift ( theres been so many gui changes in setool full you would think this would have evolved at the same rate as the engine)

Okay, very quickly...

To upload stuff to your phone (say to replace the acoustics) make a directory called ifs, inside that make one called settings and inside that one called acoustic. Put your file inside the acoustic folder, then go right back to outside the ifs folder, select that and add it into a new zip file.
Put that zip file into the Misc folder in setool and then use setool to upload to your phone.

Another question, sorry! A lot of patches I have found are .vkp files, is it possible to use them on my CID50 phone, if so how do I use them with setool2 lite? Sorry to be a pain, i have searched the forums, but it is very hard to know if information found refers to CID50 phones or not.

Yes, both layout.xml are the same, its only the security CID50.
I used a CID49 layout.xml for mine and it worked perfect!

I have a FAR plugin where i can see the CID50 folders and files,
but it cant read and write up to now.

so you go back to the tpa dir, and zip it. Then in setool add to misc section, then press the flash button

Sorry, but you cant do anything with this plugin. Just look which folders and files are on your phone.

Finally i uploaded a Flash Theme to my w810.

Its very simple to do it:

Choose any Flash Theme from this site here:

Password for the files is: faq4mobiles.de

unpack it.
I downloaded only once and it was packed in the right folders,
so u only have to zip the tpa folder with Winzip or Winrar to tpa.zip.

Then start setool, choose your phone at the top and under MISC Files
put in the zipped tpa and press FLASH.

After flashing you can choose the Theme under the other Designs.

I tested it and it works!

so does anyone have a problem with the active destop.swf flash theme. Because every time I use it, the "stopwatch" looking icon, that I assume is supposed to be the radio, doesn't work.

So if you are already debranded and just want to upload new cam or audio drivers you don't need the MAIN or FS files?
Just zip the cam or aud drivers (with directory structure) and click flash?
It only flashes the files in that zip?

it won't delete anything else, it will replace anything with same names as the files in the zip with those zipped files though.

i'm afraid i have a problem now I think i have what is called the white screen of death?

i followed your instructiosn exactly stuckfugu, to the tee, I used W810_R4EA031_MAIN_GENERIC_HN_RED50.mbn from iprotebe.cz, and W810_R4ED001_FS_AMERICA_2_RED50.fbn from the link you provided. Added main first, then FS, then pressed flash, then connected the phone. looks like everything went fine, all the blocks were added.

then I downloaded the america_2 customization files from iprotebe.cz, zipped the tpa folder (made sure all the folders were correctly named). uploaded the zip file in misc, then pressed flash. and this is where i ran into the problem.

i thought maybe it was the battery was all drained, but when i try to charge it, the phone simply flashes a white screen. and when i try to turn it on, same thing.

any suggestions how to fix this? (or what I did wrong)?

i also backed up my gdfs with setool2lite before i did anything. anyone know what to do with the .bin file, and how to restore my old gdfs? Do i need to flash any new main/fs?

there is a set routine for doing this mate, so before you do anything check around the forums as there's an ever increasing list of users here who have broken there phones with no user error in setool2 lite.
i have definitely read this procedure somewhere, might've been in the full version of setool manual, which is here somewhere too, ( attached to one of my posts).
i have also read a users account of doing this also.
and have a rough idea how its done, but you best search around and get the exact way before you proceed.
we will now get to see just how well this gdfs backup feature works. or more to the point how we use it to get out of jail free.

also if i was you i would ONLY use v1.01 of that tool, as i accidentally opened version 1.07 or 1.08 to add a patch to my phone, and it did not respond as normal, resulting in me hitting the quit button right away and thanking the phone gods my cell was not bricked. reverting to the first version fixed this.

just an update to my probkem, got my phone working now

i reflashed JUST the FS with the orange_gen FS from iprotebe.cz that stuckfugu posted in the first post, and with the same america_2 customzation file pack from iprotebe.cz that I used when i flashed with the america_2 FS file, and now my phone is working

so just a caution to everyone out there, the america_2 FS file posted in the first post MAY not work with your phone (since it didn't work with mine for some reason, but it worked with stuckfugu's)

...not sure how to explain this, since me and stuckfugu both have roger phones, r4ea031 MAIN, and w810i CID50 phones...but then again i'm not phone savvy, and i'm just glad my phone is working now

Just a quick heads up, I used that same FS and Main on my Rogers W810i and it worked great. I've even added a few more hacks to the phone without problems.

One thing to keep in mind when doing other things (cam drivers, theme hacks) is make sure you have sufficient space on the phone. I tried a MacOSX Theme Pack and it errored on most of the files because I loaded up on the ring tones first. Luckily I canceled it, deleted a ring tone and did it again, works great.

i don't know about the rest of you, I've had a problem every time I try to download the W810_R4ED001_FS_AMERICA_2_RED50.fbn file from "mediafile" on my laptop, it hangs for over 5 minutes when the download gets to 99% before finally completing the download (which may be why it didn't work for me when I tried to flash it)

however, i managed to download with no problems on a friend's laptop, so maybe it's just my laptop (or maybe mediafile), so i've uploaded it onto rapidshare (which never gives me problems) in case any of you are experiencing the same problem. it can be found here:

EDIT: I have successfully flashed my phone with the america_2 FS file using the version I downloaded on my friend's laptop (so I guess that 5 min.+ hang during downloading must have screwed up the file when I downloaded it onto my laptop)

i know at this point, setool2lite can't patch cid50 phones with .vkp files. is there any way around this? like for example (if it is possible), writing script in a .txt file for allowing faster fast forward/rewind in the walkman player, then loading it in the "misc" file area on setool2lite, and then clicking "write script"?

if it is possible does anyone know the proper scripts to use (or a source to where we can find this to make our own scripts)?

Yeah this would be cool... i also have a CID 50 w810i and i hate the fact that we aren't allowed to introduce .vkp patches in our fones... really hope a new SETool edition or something will give us the way around this.

As already said, up to now vkp Patches don't work, we have to wait until any Tool can read/write the CID50 FileSystem.

finally i got my answer.. thank god!

i added the main and fs files to setool, and clicked Flash. It then gave me the instruction to "hold c and insert usb cable". i have tried this about a half dozen times and nothing appears to happen in se tool.

my phone says "preparing for file transfer" and then says don't remove the usb, but nothing appears to be happening.... setool still says hold c and insert usb cable

anyone know what's going on here?

Upon further testing, my problem is fixed by restarting setool lite after each time i do any operation (i.e. after i identified my phone, i had to restart setool to flash)

i made a new folder by accident (had a typo in the zip file i was using), and i'm wondering if i can delete it somehow using setool?

It shouldn't hurt to leave it, but you can use a delfile: script. In the first post it shows how to enable flash menus. Follow that but with the folder you want gone.

as a follow-up, anyone know any other scripts that can be used with setool2lite to apply to CID50 phones?

hmm, i flashed the silent camera thing to my phone, but howcome when i turn on silent mode and tried it.. i still hear the auto focus sound + capture sound? o_o

i opened up setool, added the file i downloaded to the misc area, clicked flash, connected phone while holding "c", til it said phone detached then i removed the phone, did i do anything wrong?

Yes it does, I've followed the guide and it works perfectly. One thing I do notice tho is a REALLY slow startup, but after that, the menus load fine. Also connecting to the computer proves to be a trouble, but that could be my comp.

EDIT: Nvm a quick reflash and removing the battery after each step helped.

actually, technically you are not patching your w810i cid50 phone. you are flashing/debranding (or with the case of camera/acoustics/flash menus, you are customizing) your phone. CID50 phones still cannot be patched (which you would use a .vkp or script file for).

did you flash your phone with the america_2 or orange_gen FS file? make sure you flashed with america_2 FS (when I flashed with "silent camera" customization file on orange_gen, it didn't work for me, but after I re-flashed with america_2, then the customization file again, it worked for me)
doesn't look liek you did anything wrong with setool2lite. if you did flash with america_2, i'd suggest trying reflashing the customization file with setool2lite v.107 (1.08 seems to be unstable for some people for some reason)
also, if you're customizing your camera driver, flash the driver first, then the customization file (not sure if the the order really matters, but give it a try, it won't hurt, it's just how i flashed my customization file)

well i only flashed the camera sound removal file, nothing else.

do i have to flash fs files first? if i do that, then wouldnt that be debranding my phone, and lose warranty with Rogers?
