Full Version: Use Bluetooth PAN to Access Your Computer's Internet

1. setup paired connection between pc and k800
2. go into network settings on pc and enable "bluetooth Network" (using the Bluetooth LAN Access Server Driver)
3. Bridge the local area network and the Bluetooth Network
4. In bluetooth settings go into properties of the K800 and tick "Network Access" (authorisation tab)
5. On the K800, in bluetooth settings/my devices, select the computer and "allways Allow".
6. then go into bluetooth settings on pc and attempt to start the PAN Network Access Point (this didn't work - it just kept trying to connect on the phone but wouldn't) - even though it doesn't work, it creates a data account with the name of your PC in the Data Account settings on the K800. Disconnect the PAN Network Access Point service
7. On the phone, go into internet profiles and create a new profile, using the new data account (the one with your computer's name on it). Set this profile as the default profile.
8. On the phone, go into the browser, the phone will auto connect to the computer and you will be browsing the Internet using the computer!

If you have a manual IP setup on your internet connection on the PC, this may not work. But if you get DHCP off your broadband router this should work for you too. (note this method works WITHOUT having to share your internet connection - that's why the two networks are bridged)

Method doesn't like to work in Vista.

It wont let me bridge my bluetooth adaptor with my Wireless since bluetooth isn't a "high speed network"

Hmm, that's a bugger. If you can't bridge, try sharing the internet?

Vista decided to not work and not let me share tongue.gif lol. <3 vista laugh.gif

sad.gif 2nd real trouble with vista. first was BSOD (accidentally installed XP Zone Alarm, whoops lol tongue.gif - fixed wink.gif)

Do internet charges apply to the phone, or the computer though? Like, will Cingular bill me for using their internet, or will my ISP on my computer bill me?

Not similiar, but there is a working methodL
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?t...565&start=0

@Wally_dog, when you use the bluetooth data acount, you are not using your carrier's network, so therefore there is no charge. The data traffic comes out of your computer internet provider plan.

Hi Max!

Good to see you around here too
=]

Nice topic! Good to see you sharing these knowledge with se-nse guyz to!

People, don't forget that this will only work with the Widcomm stack!!

follow the "how to" here http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=342643 to get your BT adapter working with Widcomm Stack.
Be sure not to get any newer version than 5.1.1700... this version didn't worked for me
I'm using the 5.0.1.801... the patch works with this version too...
just follow the guide.

My adapter has Belkin Software and it works fine. Maybe the belkin software is just a branded version of widcomm? I tried downloading widcomm but the links are dead. My belkin software doesn't allow to permanently allow connections to devices within PAN connections - so every time I use the PAN from my phone after logging into the system I have to re-authorise. It then okay until I log out.
redguy
Which version is your Belkin (Widcomm) software?

Is the bluetooth device my phone or a type of bluetooth "modem" that send the signal? Because I tried to install a Bluetooth softqare and it said I needed to plug in my bluetooth device... so I plugged in my phone with Bluetooth on and it didn't work >.<

when i get my next phone(m600i or w950i) and set up my pan running off of my router through a usb bluetooth dongle ill write a guide and post it up here. reason im not going to post it yet is i dont actually have a phone to test its usage, theoretically i think i can get it to work but im pretty sure my k610 doesnt support pan. =[

it's just an asus wl500gp running a custom build of dd-wrt i made with bluetooth kernel modules, bluez and usb kernel modules also etc etc. along with a bunch of scripts. to get it going...should get phone in a week or so, a few weeks after that guide will prob be here smile.gif ...if i dont run into any problems(unlikely)

at least this way u dont need ur computer on smile.gif.

edit: on second thought does the k610 support pan

My question is: I can't get the streaming work.. I have selected the computer in the streaming connection prop. but no luck. It try's to connect to the mediaserver, for a long while, but after... not successfully.. What is i doing wrong? Is there more settings to set?

Thanks in advance...

This trick did not work for me, and I was trying this already before finding this thread.

but this thread allowed me to clarify that it wont work with my BT stack, it is: a Billionton bluetooth device and stack, and looks like it is not a widcomm compliant softwtare sad.gif

anyone knows if widcomm would work with my adapter and where to get the proper version (5.0) ?

any link ?

I used to use my phone with my adsl connection, with Widcomm 5.0.1.801, and didn't have to use that DHCP server. Just shared my aDSL with my Bluetooth PAN adapter. all worked fine. Used to surf with MiniOpera, connect to msn, internal browser to download files.. everything.

But now I can't get it to work... everything is fine, phone sends the http address, but notihng happens.. it keeps searching forever till it times out.

I can see te phone sends the packets requesting for the http address, but there's no response... I have already disabled firewalls, restarted DHCP, used that DHCP server... installed Widcomm 5.0.1.2500, the 5.0.1.1700 and back again to 5.0.1.801 [even tried Bluesoleil 3.2.3.8].

Nothing.

Any ideia of whats wrong? Maybe this new firmware?

Is this possible for w7000i ?

If Yes, then plz mention the way in detail to do it.
Dragor_SElover
Hey folks! Any chance of making this trick work using the USB cable instead of Bluetooth adapter?

Just asking since when I connect my K550i [> W610i thanks to se-nse :-D] to my PC, I see a disconnected LAN connection.

So going by your bridging technique, would it be possible to bridge the two LAN's? my Internet LAN to my K550 USB Ethernet Emulation??

Wow! wouldn't this trick, if it were to work, tick all cell providers off!
It would be like, Buy a SE phone and visit this post to find out how to browse internet on ur SE phone using ur computer's net connection!!

I'll try this myself in a few days and post back with results!
darthvaderrulesyourmind
I achieved this with my W580I (unbranded). You don't need to bring the connections if you're using Widcomm 5. All you need to do is go to connections and set up Internet connection sharing using your Bluetooth Netwotk. Then follow the directions to connect them and watch your computer closely. Try a SEUS if it doesn't connect. If if your running the latest version have it re-update. It worked for me! (note this will not modify your personal data, please backup to be sure.)

The only thing i can reccomend is using virtualization to run windows and then follow this tut. Tiger (as far as i know) doesn't allow Bluetooth PAN.

i couldnt make it work.... can anyone help me? Just write a better "manual".

Oh. sad.gif I use W910i but on Toshiba Bluetooth stack.

I get these options:

I tried with bluesoleil and Widcomm drivers. it at least connected with bluesoleil but i couldnt have internet access. With bluesoleil, the phone was forcing me to create a data account (i think to make it work as modem). And it didnt connected at all, i dont know y.
When using widcomm, the bluetooth network wont connect. when i tried to, it appeared error messages like couldnt make connection because of security and the other was that it couldnt connect because both devices were set as NAP (or APN, i dont remember).

First i would like to know what phone you have. (I have W580i)

This is what i did after talking with SE Support:

1. Unistall Widcomm
2. Reinstall Widcomm
2. A: Set widcomm Advanced Config/Local Services/Network Access to acces the internet. Click ok. and close the boxes.
B: Got to your regular connections properties. Set it to sharing using the bluetooth network.
3. Use update service and flash to the newest firmware, even if you already have it.
4. On your phone add a new device.
5. Enter the required passkeys in computer and then phone.
6. (On your phone)Click connect, watch your computer very carefully.
7. If your computer asks for the passkey click cancel. THen when it asks for network access, tick the checkbox and click ok really quickly. The phone should then display connected. Then create a new internet account using your Bluetooth device as the connection. Set it to default and enjoy.

What do you mean with "flash newest firmware"? the phone's firmware?
You do all this before pairing the phone with pc?

EDIT

Hey!! I reinstalled bluesoleil and it worked! Thanks!!!!

I think it shouldnt be working but it is!!

Hi lecsi

I have the bluesoleil software too, but i can't connect my k850 with internet by bluetooth, could you say what did you do to made it work?
Lecsi
I dont know how the menus from k850 are.
Go bluetooth menu on the cellphone, search for a new device and pair with the computer. Bridge the bluetooth connection with lan connection on "network connections" on pc. On bluesoleil (mine version is 2.6) there is an option for PAN networks where you can create a new private network or select to use another network. There i selected my LAN network and clicked ok. Then on cell phone, associate the PC data account to an internet profile and save it. Then go to My devices menu on cellphone, select your pc and press connect. On pc it should appear that it is trying to connect to a PAN network, select the option to always accept connections and press ok.
you should be connected now. I dont know if all the steps to connect really matters. I dont know if you really need to bridge connections. But anyway, try that.

I would use internet connection sharing (with widcomm) because bridging networks always destroys my connections.
