Hi

I hope you all like my latest mod. I decided I quite fancied the all black look but retaining the silver keypad from my silver/black W880i. I've made a wee tutorial which, I hope, has attached successfully .. smile.gif Enjoy!

You know Xellar, you could be right .. I've only had the phone about 4 weeks and I think I've gone modding before I've had a chance to enjoy it in standard form . . . . . HOWEVER, I guess that's what modding is all about. It's in me to f**k around with things that are just fine! rofl.gif You should have seen my Christmas toys by New Years Eve .. all in bits and mostly not working!! rofl.gif rofl.gif I just fancied something different . .

Coxy, I got it from 'wolf0383' on eBay - I had checked out cnn.cn but noticed that the parts from wolf included some extra rubber parts . . and we all like that, don't we?? rofl.gif

Hello and thank you, mate! I'll get back as often as I can but work commitments take up a fair bulk of my time these days .. angry.gif

To all .. if I get more time soon, I'll attempt a full facia swap.

Thanks a lot for this guide.
I followed it and I changed my w880s faceplate too.
But... I need to change the back. Can you make a guide or just tell me any instructions to follow in order to change the backplate without breaking my phone?
Thanks in advance.

Someone Please..

Hi to all who need help taking the back cover off, i've managed to change both the back and front covers of my w880i, if someone is willing to provide pictures i'll give instructions, as i don't fancy taking mine apart again.

Hi Noone, I'll try my best this is off the top of my head.

First of all, make a note of how all the side buttons (camera, volume and walkman) are positioned, especially the camera as this is the most difficult to put back.

1. With the front cover off, there are 4 or 5 small black clips holding the keypad board. These just need to be moved slightly to free the metal board, but be careful DO NOT try pull it off as it has a fragile ribbon (cable) attached to the SIM card and memory card.

2. The SIM Card unit and memmory card are glued down to the case, but when lifting the metal board above it you should be able to see two places where u can pry them up from, be careful the top of these 2 units are joined so make sure u pry one up slowly and then the other.

3. At the top of the phone where the camera unit is held, slowly pry the underneath of that up with a flat jewellery piece set.

4. The Screen - do not try pry this up around the edges (YOU WILL CRACK THE SCREEN). When you have the board up and Memory and SIM card unit out of place look further underneath and u will see a gap where u can pry the screen up from (at the bottom of the screen) be careful again as there is a ribbon connecting it to the board.

5. Your phone should be disconnected bes thing is to turn it over onto something flat for it to come apart, as it is a bit tricky to handle.

6. There is a black unit at the bottom of the phone, this just needs prying out and put into the back cover of your new case.

7. Now you have to put everything back into the new case, remember the plastic piece for the camera this pushes outward from your old cover, you can then stick it on your new cover.

I hope this is good enough, remember your at your own risk to follow these instructions, if you think it will be too difficult i wouldn't recommend doing it.

Thanks a lot navc83! Is seems pretty tricky!!!
Maybe I'll give it a shot in the afternoon and if I work things out I'll take some pictures in order to make other persons who-want-their-backplate-changed, life easier...

no problem noone, just remmeber that when putting it back together the board needs to clip into place, sometimes it might get stuck coz of the rubber seal on the camera button, so just make sure its sitting in it's position properly. You might need to hold it flat with a flat blade jewllery piece when clipping the board in.

Also the volume button sits spring DOWN into the case. Just incase you have trouble figuring it out.

Ryk
Why o why do they have to have such a silly cover to the screws at the bottom of the phone (below the keys). It is sooo easy to bend and being glued cannot be readily replaced back. What I really need is some fresh covers that I can replace the old ones with. For some reason the replacement fascia sets from Hong Kong etc. all have the covers pre stuck! How dumb is that?

My w880i is a Lufthansa special which comes with a Lufthansa logo cover at the bottom below the keys. I want to replace that with a Wslkman one but cannot get a spare cover...

Do I love my w880i ? Yes. But wouldn't it be a dream if it was a 5mp camera with autofocus and auto anti shake stabiliser, plus FM & AM radio. Oh! and how about an underwater colur balance setting and underwater case so I could take scuba photos? He he... Finally, ability to auto answer a call with no ring so I can use it for covert listening like the old Nokias allowed many many years ago (about 11-12yrs). Finally what about being able to print to a printer using bluetooth ?

AWESOME thanks very much for the guide very helpful. Any chance of getting one about how to take out the back? I'm about to mod my w880i front AND back. Thanks. =)

can you make a guide , "how to remove W880i Back Facia" ?

Thx for this guide anyway.

Yep I too am looking for a guide on how to remove the w880i back faceplate! It would be great and much appreciated if someone could! Thanks.
banannaboat
i'm interested to know what the quality of the faceplate you got from wolf0383 off ebay was like? Did it have the rubbery texture on the back and the metal front? I've seen a few kits on ebay that look pretty crap and a lot of them have a green and red handset symbol on the web/shortcut buttons, which we all know arn't used for making calls.
