W580i Problem Options

Okay so a few months ago my w580i started acting up (running sluggishly and crashing randomly for whatever reason) and I called Sony Ericsson and they said run the update on it. So I did. This was a big mistake, because my phone (which I bought unlocked) must have re-locked itself because when I turned it on with my sim card in it, it said invalid sim (I have AT&T). So I called them back up again and they said that my phone was actually a w580c and that I'm basically screwed because my phone was originally locked to some Chinese carrier (apparently), and when I updated it, it got re-locked. Now my phone is CID53, and I can't unlock it. I went ahead and bought an iPhone, but I'd still like to get this phone working again (honestly, I like my w580 better than my iPhone but I doubt I'll switch back). Is there anything I can do about this?


edit: According to the torn stickers on the box, the original carrier is movistar (a mexican carrier). Would I be able to just buy an unlock code for my phone and be done with this?

The phone can be patch unlocked. The AnyCID topic in Research and Development will be needed and also have a look at the tutorials section.

Not much help if they cant access the games menu (though having said that, the phone should be saying insert correct SIM rather than invalid SIM)

My bad, it says "Insert Correct SIM".

I will try patch unlocking it. I vaguely remember trying to do something like that, but it may have been something different and I just gave up. I'll post my results.

As cchaos kindly reminded me, you won't be able to patch without the correct sim to open the phone.

Oh, well then is there any other way (like buying an unlock code)?

See if you can buy the same network sim over the internet (try ebay or somewhere like that).

The only alternative is to flash it to genric firmware, then see if a shop will (permanently) unlock it for you, or use a paid for service like ultimate unlocker

You dont have to, but I would recommend doing that (just in case it patch unlocks it, then youre not "screwed" if you want to patch in the quick access patch for modding purposes)

You need to use FAR and JD flasher plugin (a copy of which is in my skydrive folder (under programs), and everything is setup, and ready to use once its extracted. (main link is in my signature)

Guide to useage (note: you wont see bflash due to no loaders being used under the db2020 script, which is what your phone will use): http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=23228

EDIT: and dont forget to back up your contacts etc before you flash the phone (if you decide to)

Okay I flashed it and ran the unlocker.

When I start my phone up with my sim card in it, it says:
"Configuration Error. Please contact your network operator or service centre."
Any ideas? (sounds like an error on my part when I was flashing or something)

You've forgotten the custpack.

Still having the same problem. Would installing a new FS help? (or would that force me to buy more credits for ultimate unlocker)

Not necessarily. You sure you uploaded the custom files to tpa/preset/custom ?
