I have a Vodafeon branded K800i. I have just left Vodafeon and so had it unlokced using a code they gave to me over the phone. It now can except any SIM. I noticed on the Vodafone webiste a section about updates and after much thinking and then googling has lead me here. So my querstion is: Is it worth upgrading my firmware when i have been quiet happy with it for the last 18 months and also i do do upgrade will it re-lock my phone to Vodafone, as i've read thsi might happen.

Thanks

If Voda gave you a code to unlock, then flashing the FW will not re-lock it. Only patch unlocks need to be applied after flashing. Its worth updating FW especially if its very old and if you want to patch it. smile.gif

Thanks for that info.

The next question is which firmware do want to upgrade to? What is the difference between them? I've seen the link to SEuser and there seems to loads of them for K800i. By the way i have a red52 (from XS++) phone and i am in the UK.

Thanks again

Thanks for that. I've downloaded those files and i've got the stage where i have backed up to create a GDFS file. If it all goes wrong can i put it back to it's working state using that file. Also the turtorial i am following is the first one form the turtorial menu on this site. It goes through convertig a K800 to a K810. Is it worth me doing that instead of flashing with new K800 firmware? What is the difference between the 2?

GDFS: thats a last resort really. Those files that I gave you should work.

k800@k810: You gain track ID and photo fix, but its a hassle as you have to use the k800 lighteffects (and even then the top keys dont actually light up under camera)

Personally, I havent bothered with it on my k800.

The phone is a k800: its the k800 light effects you have to use. I think I know what guide the poster is using (Diezils XS++ guide) where it says:

QUOTE
K800 into a K810 READ ON!!!

Now since I’m flashing a K800 with K810 Firmware I need to upload the K800 light effect files so that my keypad will light up correctly (well almost lol.gif when you start the Camera there will be one row of buttons that wont light up (no biggy)---------).

EDIT: no I wouldnt of tongue.gif and you proved that tongue.gif

OK.

So do i just go through the flashing process again?

I did tick the customize file system , then selected own custpack (rather than the K800) from the dropdown menu and then in the folder i have XS++ i have a file structure set up as tpa\preset\custom and then the files in the download. Is this correct?

Thanks again

No need to flash again. Start XS, connect, click 'FSX' then 'StartFSX', wait for a while then navigate to tpa/preset/custom and copy your extracted custom pack to there. Click 'Shutdown FSX' and your done. smile.gif

Thats brilliant. It has now worked. Thanks for all of you help.

Of course i now have new questions.

The answer key now goes straight to the web even i the phone book, where as it didn't before, it would ring the person highlighted. . Can that be changed. Also i have a blue box around my signal icon. CAn that be removed, or is that theme related.

I know what you mean: the answer keys are part of the vodafone branding. I look into this as Im curious about it myself (note: this may take a while)

As for the "end call" key: that will now be a link to the "activity menu", until I can work out the hooks for them (dont worry about it too much: I will see if I can everything right so all you have to do is upload it to the phone)

Hi.

I've just noticed that when I connect to XS and it reads my phone info it does show that the firmware has been updated. Reads is as R3A022, and also region is displayed as VFE_LIVE_2. Is this an XS error?

Also after having a root around the forum i've seen lots of cool new menu's and fonts etc. Is that easy to do. I've downloaded the Vista tranformation pack. Is there a tutorial on how to get this onto my phone as i cannot seemt o find one?

Thanks again.

Hmm thats interesting. Did you flash the FS?

Fonts are pretty easy (esp if you use diezil's fonts) - not worth doing until we find out whats going on with your FS

Transformation packs should have folders etc in them showing where to upload stuff to (unless they are png files)

Yes i flashed using k800_r8bf003_main_generic_wi_red52.mbn for main, k800_r8bf003_fs_europe_2_red52.fbn for FS and from the drop down menu i used K800 and EUROPE_2 (CDA102511/2) (K800). the first 2 files were provided earlier in the post. XS reported that the flashing was successful.

Im still pondering as to why the FS is being detected as vodafone confused.gif

Boysie99 any thoughts? To me its a sign that the phone is starting to die (which I certainly hope not in this case)
