Just when you thought that they couldn't go cheaper than the W395, Sony Ericsson did it again! The W205, ladies and gentlemen, is the result. A Walkman phone for the preschoolers. T303's Walkman version, if you will.

It has an amazing 1.8" TFT screen, supporting 65k colours and with a resolution of 128x160 pixels. So that rules out people with poor eyesight. The phone itself is 16mm thick, which makes it rather chunky. The height and the width compensate for that, being 92x47mm respectively.

Soo, what makes the W205 so special? Nothing. Well, apart from its relatively small size. It's got Walkman v2, the dreadful Sagem interface (no themes!), Java games, FM  radio, a 1.3MP camera on its back, allowing up to 2.2x digital zoom and video recording. Bluetooth is also there. Oh, also, unlike the T303, the W205 features a Memory Stick Micro M2 card slot.

In our opinion, this phone is awfully redundant. By the time of its release there will be much better last-gen phones selling for the same price (most probably). One could always buy it as a backup phone, I guess, or for their child. The expected release will be somewhere in Q2 this year, when the phone will ship in Ambient Black.

Also announced today is the MS410 Snap-on speaker. It supports all Walkman phones.

To be honest it looks quite ugly, although it could probably get some sales if the price is right.
If not, like Scots said, people will just opt for the last generation of phones.

EDIT: Hang on, if SEMC-Blog is correct, is it only capable with up to 2GB M2's?

T303 over again, looks nice, nice size but will it be another miserable user experience? At least there's a memory card this time.

I don't really know what SE expect to achieve with these Sagem based devices, assuming that's what this is.

Only 30 seconds sound recording
No forwarding/rewinding in Music Player
No call recording feature
No extra features in Camera
Maximum Java application size = 512 KB (Java Micro)
No smileys in Messaging
Poor video recording
No modding

Sony Ericsson's low end models like w200, K510 and so on do not have such flaws....
