Just connect to XS. It won't do anything unless you tell it to.
Turn off phone, remove battery for a few secs, reinsert it, open XS++3.1, press 'connect', and connect the usb while holding 'C'. You should then get all the info. You must have installed the USB Flash Drivers first!

The EROM color is the state of the phone: Red is retail phones (normally brought from a shop and are the most common.
