SE-NSE Logo

Here's our 12-minute video preview of the drool-worthy XPERIA X1. In the video, we're covering the design and feel of the phone, boot-up, the XPERIA panels, camera and briefly the two web browsers, Opera Mobile and Mobile Internet Explorer. We hope you enjoy the video, as it was straight-up painful to upload (almost 300 megabytes) - this one is not going on YouTube, that's for sure! At least not today. Keep in mind this is a prototype, although it seems in a stage awfully near retail.

When changing in the panels overview, I suspect there's a reason for its slowness. Not only does it have to change the panels, but also the entire WM interface, which requires extra processing power. As you can see in the video, it's not really a problem changing the layout of the panels either in landscape or portrait mode. I think that's because the phone has already loaded the WM interface and can then use its processing power on changing the panels layout.

Not lightning fast, but noticeably faster than any other WM device that I've seen. Pretty impressive.

I think Sweden is the only place it's officially out already. It'll be out in the UK this week, and other countries should follow very soon.

It looks better in Solid Black smile.gif
Thanks a bunch for the preview!

edit: oh my god, it's priced at €700 without contract in the Netherlands!

I much prefer the black ones too.

Does the interface only rotate when sliding the phone open?

Also is there any on screen keyboard for text input with the phone closed and held vertically?

There's no accelerometer in it, Mik.

And yep, you can use an on-screen keyboard regardless of the orientation.

Theres nothing sonyericsson.gif about it, it's more HTC , still a nice phone looks better than the nokia n series, miles better than any censored.gif apple have come up with.

I'm very disappointed about the lack of an accelerometer... it seems so trivial to put in such a nice phone!

That's actually quite disappointing having no accelerometer...hmm, a major disappointment now I think of it. No auto image rotation for example or horizontal web browsing without opening the keyboard, things that should be in such a high end handset.
