What you see above is a picture taken by a C702 without further cases. Check out the full stress test (dust, rain, public baths) at SE-World (German) plus the videos after the jump.

P.S.: Yes, it still works!

Well, actually, it doesn't.

The C702 is splash-resistant, not waterproof.
So if you choose to submerge the handset, you do it at your own risk.

Well it's more than splash-resistant isn't it, so that's why I said it.

No, it isn't more than splash-resistant - look at the product page on the sonyericsson.gif site.

Ok, yes, that particular handset may have done better but not all of them will stand up to the same use and when someone does try sticking theirs underwater and it does leak, then it's their own fault for trying to do something the handset isn't designed to do.

Same as it was with the likes of the Nokia 5210.

Splash-proof is one thing, it just means that you put rubber seals round the battery compartment etc but you don't really have to guarantee any set level of performance - if people get the handset wet and it leaks, well since there's no set amount of water that counts as a splash, there's no real way in which you can be held responsible if the phone stops working.
Waterproof on the other hand, then you are guaranteeing a set level of performance, usually certifying the device to a specific depth. To do that you generally require much chunkier seals and you also have the problem of what do you do about the microphone and earpiece?

It's a simple matter of what the manufacturer is prepared to guarantee the handset against and it's simply easier and cheaper to guarantee it against less.

Obviously, as we have seen, just because it's only certified as splash-proof, that doesn't mean the handset won't out-perform what sonyericsson.gif are prepared to guarantee.
It just means that if you do take it swimming though and it were to stop working, then it's your problem not sonyericsson.gif's.

lol step666 is just trying to show you guys... it aint desiger manufactured to go under water like that.. but some designer specs may just be out performed by some....

eg. overclocking your cpu is similar to this. Intel doesnt want you to do it, but you can try it at your own risk..
