Exclusive: Sony Ericsson's T610 remake

The T610 was one of Sony Ericsson's first smash hits, and many will argue that this single phone model marked a turning point for the company. Five years after its release, it looks like Sony Ericsson is about ready with a remake of this ever-popular handset.



We don't have a final product name on this one - yet - but its codename is Remi. Personally, I like "New T610" better, so I'll just call it that...

The new T610 is a slim candy bar phone based on the W890 hardware platform. This means we're looking at a phone with a waistline at about 10 millimetres, and it will probably end up at 10.5 centimetres in length, and 4.7 centimetres in width, but my assumptions are based solely on W890's dimensions. Parts of the body are apparently aluminium, which seems rather nice, and much T610-like as well.



So... specifications. It's running the A2 software platform, like the W890 and many others, and it's an HSDPA-enabled phone. The camera on the back is a 3.2 mega pixel one, unfortunately only with fixed focus.

Can't think of anything more at the moment, but if you've got a question, feel free to leave a comment, and hopefully I'll be able to answer it smile.gif Please keep in mind though that this is basically a non-branded W890, so most questions about features can be answered by looking at the W890's features.

I owned the t610i in aluminium haze when sony ericsson just started becoming a new fad. Everything bout the phone was good, save the bloddy laggg when navigating thru the menus... almost made me throw the phone against the floor several times... tongue.giflaugh.gif

For a remake it, the new t610i ought to do a lot more. Most of the phones we see now (esp the k750 series up to the w810i -- i owned that too smile.gif) are descendants/offspring of the venerable t610i. Just throwing in some mediocre features in a slim package doesn't do the model name justice -- it was top of it's league when it was first launched. Don't let it down now...

I'd say the T650 was already a T610 successor but it missed the boat somewhat as the A200 phones came out just after it. This appears to be like an A200 version of the T650 so another in the T610 family line.

Well I expect there will be a range of colours and it'll be marketed as being fashionable and probably have fancy patterned boxes. Good marketing can sell the same product to different markets.

should work though you may encounter one problem the w890 has stereo speakers i don't think the new t610 has them.

I didn't realise the W890i had stereo speakers, I thought it just had the one on the back. Where is the second, is it under the d-pad like on the S500i/W580i?
