W580i Camera Error, Broken Camera Options

I've been using the w580i for a while and it was working flawlessly. However, problems started showing up recently.. the most annoying one would be the error i get whenever i try turning the camera on.

Whenever i try to activate the camera i get the error "Another application is running. Close it, and then start the camera."

I've checked and i don't have any application running at the moment. I've tried doing master reset but to no avail.

I've had instances where the camera would start working again. Other times the camera would activate but would be blurred.

Any ideas on how this problem can be solved?

I think that you have to put new camera driver in to your phone. But you suspouse to know that this operation will deprive your guarantee.

try SEUS to check if there is any updates for your handset? does sound like a software issue, so continue upgrade even if it states the handset is already upto date..

failing that re-install the main software into the handset yourself - plenty of tuts here

I have a w580i too and I use this camdriver (attatched) its about 800kb per pic so good quality

Thanks for the suggestions, i've tried all of them but it still doesn't work.

Sending it back to Sony Ericsson for repairs/exchange is out of the question since i've opened the phone, changed housing, flashed and whatnot.

The problem started appearing way before i started modding it.

Out of frustration, i also tried replacing the camera with a new camera repair module i bought from www.cnn.cn, the problem still exists though. I can conclude that this is, for sure, a software problem.

Also, just to make sure, camera drivers are to be uploaded to IFS/SETTINGS/CAMERA right?

Any more ideas?

Yes that's the right directory, but you said you changed housing, I'm not familiar with your phone, but, make sureof the cables (flex) and buttons if they are well fixed. If your phones uses an external memory try removing it, and activate the camera!

Oh and another thing! Did you try using the diagnostic (Service) tests? (>*<<*<*), if not? do it and check if the camera works.

um, yeah...i'm having the same problem with my camera on my w580i, and already tried the services test....three times. it can't test the camera because (go figure) "another application is running, etc." so, i already flashed my phone with the newest firmware version, as well as uploading the camera driver located on this page. it's still telling me an application is running. anybody ever stop to think it might be because you can never actually shut the walkman off? anyway, what i need in someone who has gone through everything i've gone through with ideas for this, and tell what they finally mangaged to do that completely fixes this issue.

sending the phone in is NOT an option because a friend gave me the w580i to replace my dead moto v220.
